I’m a roadie and a CXer, I haven’t mountain biked in years, but I’ve recently been dragging my 20 year old inbred out of the shed and blasting around Woburn Woods. I’m really enjoying it but the inbred is rattling itself to pieces.
I want to spend less that £500 on a new rig. I’m thinking of a new voodoo bizango (mate works there and I have a 25% off voucher), or a s/h cotic soul.
Please help, I’m totally lost! It will only be used up Woburn woods, so a mix of roots and sand with a bit of up and down.
Not sure this makes a difference but I’m pretty fit, but my bike handling is definitely worth improving!
Vitus Nucleus keeps getting awarded the best hard tail under £500 for a few years, i own one.. i love it.. but its the first bike i have had in years also
my only wish list it didnt have was the 1x drivetrain and a dropper.. but you cant have everything for that money...
The Vitus Nucleus does indeed keep winning stuff under £500 and I have the sentier which is the more expensive version and it rides great. However I think if I could get the Bizango for a similar cost I’d be tempted to go with that as I think it’s 1x and I seem to lose the chain a lot whenever I rode 2x bikes with a front mech.
That said if there’s decent 2nd hand Cotic Soul for the money in 27.5” wheelsize (seems unlikely - but prob quite a lot of 26” wheelsize) then that’s worth a look.
Yup.. I wish I had gone for the sentier for the wider rear end but not a biggy now.
Yer.. Just looked at the bizango and if you can get the price down then I would.
My mate just got the 450 voodoo for 300 through Halfords doing a part ex on his old iron and not having stock of his size alongside Halfords regular sale prices.
Or plan c....
I also have a fatbike, as we take the horses to the beach. It’s a rubbish calibre one.
I could get a hardtail fatbike?
or a s/h cotic soul.
If you know of one for sale and its in good conditin you have your answer.
Hers the one I’ve found:
I don’t think I’d pay £450 for that. Old wheel size, weird front chainring setup with 2 rings but no mech, was high spec with xo bit only 9 speed, getting harder to find decent 26” tyres now.
