Simply a case of chopping the outside half of a BMX inner tube off and putting some sealant in the tyre? In theory?

How successful have people been running this? Worth doing or just sticking to tubes?

I've done it a few times and it works well. Just stretch the tube round the rim, then slit it open, mount your tyre adding sealant at the end. Inflate and use some soapy water to find any air leaks, get the wheel on its side and shake the sealant round to seal it all up.

mind you I did have one attempt blow off the rim, that made me jump, the other half thought I'd been shot. Lesson learnt was to go easy on the co2 when inflating.

Follow this, you can't go far wrong...

Successful? It was just as reliable for me as UST, or Stans.

Worth Doing? Very much so... It's all the benefits of UST/Stans, but without the cost. The only faff is it's more difficult to change your tyres over, but if you're the kind of person that barely every changes tyres, you're onto a BIG winner...

Been on the ghetto system for 18 months now and can recommend it. Worth noting what condition your tyres you are going to be using are in though. First tried it with some old kenda nevegals that were to slack and wouldn't seal. Put a new maxxis ardent on and it went up fist time.

Been Ghetto for a few months now on my current tyres, no worries. Search you tube for videos on how to.

2.3 High roller folding and 2.3 minion folding on now, 2.5 high rollers in the past, 2.3 continental verticals ages ago, nevegrals before that until a rock at Innerleithen on make or brake sliced my tyre wall open and sealant jiz came out my tyre all over my bike 😯

New tyres can be a pain to seat onto the rim. Just ride them for a few weeks with a tube in to get them shaped up then ghetto them.

I get this stuck in my head but with the words "ghetto tubeless" sometimes.

I tried this ages ago with a saggy tyre and fairly flat profiled rim. Now my rims are a bit more nippy I may try again. However my current rims are Presta, is it fine to use normal Presta 20" tubes and fill from the bead or does the core need to be removable?

Pour sealant in through the tyre when the last bit of wall needs popping onto the rim, pour the required amount in, rotate the wheel (so the jiz can't come out all over you) and then put the tyre bead onto the rim being careful not to pinch the BMX inner tube in the process.

Don't end up like this

Lotta peeps say use a 20" bmx cut tube on a 26" rim. I say use a 24" tube over the top of your existing rim strip. It reinforces the inside so less chance of an internal puncture on the spoke ends. Also the slight added thickness makes inflating easier.

I've done it sealing only with washing up liquid. Rock hard still. Not one solitary single escaping air bubble. Also if u use co2, lay the wheel flat on a bucket (never upright) and release a 12g canister as fast as u can. It works a treat.

Trim the excess rim strip with a hooked carpet fitting blade in a stanley knife. Put ur bike upside down insert wheel. Poke the hook thru the excess and spin the wheel slowly away from u with one hand while holding the knife. U end up with 2 free rim strips!!

I should also add that I've also done UST and non-UST tyres on UST rims and imho ghetto is better. Same results but easier to pump up and seal in one hit if ur using 12g co2 cartdiges. With UST rims I found I had to waste a co2 cartridge as a practice run to see if the tyre would inflate & pop onto the ust ridge before using another cartridge on final fitting. With ghetto u just know it's gonna seal so just use one cartridge from the off. I've used 1.5", 1.75", 1.9", 2.0", 2.25" and 2.35" non UST outers. The smaller ones are the trickiest as they can let air out very fast as u inflate. Took two goes on a couple of these until I learned to put the wheel horizontal on a bucket.

P.S. 12g CO2 cartridges are 2 for £5.00 at Halfrauds but u can get 50 for £20.00 online. Go figure. If ur in a hurry try a local sports gun shop. Mine does 10 for £10.00

Continuity - Yeah I thought about Gorilla but didn't have any. Also thought as my rim strips are 18g each I'm not that that much of a weightweener to worry about a saving of 10gs.

As a fat 95kg b'stard I never use less than 30 psi. Hence wanted security in my under layer

The other thing was that the gorilla tape roll is like £2, whereas stans strips are £20 a wheel.
