Who's riding fully rigid ss ?
Whereabouts have you ridden and what's your thoughts ?
Going to take the Hummer out of hibernation and get some miles in the ice, slush and mud this weekend....
Me. Epping mud fest.
The hummer hasn't been used in a while though will get taken to the Lakes in March for the gears!
Where?Snowdonia,north wales,dark peak....for the last 6 years.
Thoughts?I really want some biscuits but can be arsed walking to the shop to get some.
Niner One9 with niner forks which I use for the Lakes.
In the past I've also had a Genesis io which was fantastic but had dropout bolts made of cheese and I couldn't keep the wheel from slipping and a dialled love/hate which was beefier but encouraged a broken scaphoid. These were used in the peaks, dales and dalby/sherwood a lot more.
I'm slowly getting talked into a Singular Pegasus by a bad bad man.
Thoughts? If I was forced to own just one bike it would be a rigid ss. And that contrary to popular opinion I think 26ers might be equally as good for rigid ss'ing as 29ers.
Inspirational fellas.. Will haul out the hummer in the morning....
The Nicolai took a beasting today in mud, ice, snow and slush.....miserable.....
Yep
peak district, lakes, scotland, north wales natural and even trail mincer places....6-12 and 24 hr races....it's all fine and dandy
thoughts...."does my beard look big on this?"
" I'm slowly getting talked into a Singular Pegasus by a bad bad man."
oh god...Pop's not grooming you is he?
Yes we do, there are 8 of us in our clan who ride SS around the Chilterns and half have rigid forks. This bike must be one of the easiest bikes I've ever owned for looking after even with all the mud we're riding through and fun to ride, fast too!.
I tried carbon rigids and they made climbing a lot easier and the bike was really light. Descending was another story at speed tho' and I had the odd heavy twang to the wrist from something unseen.. I opted for some nice Fox bouncers which are more comfortable and they lock for the climbing.
Try rigid tho' it teaches you to ride more carefully and pick your lines as well as losing a kilo. 😀
I ride this but only on local [s]footpaths[/s] bridleways around the Village and up Rivington.
Thoughts are, that it is actually ideal for a quick blast in the slop and mud, really enjoy riding it. Surprising really, as it costs CONSIDERABLY less than either my Soul or Turner

stumpy_m4 that is a lovely lovely photo! 8)
Not since I sold my BMX.
My original mtb were rigid.... I fondly remember my splatter paint kona cinder cone bought with apprentice wages !
I ran rigid Ss much of the autumn. Loved it but I lost patience with having (horror) too many bikes (/horror) clutering the place up so have rationalised to a geared hardtail now. If my ss kit fitted it I'd probably still be running ss and a rigid fork until spring. I quite fancy rigid 29tho'.
Ride South Downs and Wiltshire mostly. Lots of chalky clay muck.
Why not finish the job and make it a fixie with just a front brake?
If its good enough for satan..... Lol ! 😆

This. I'm riding trails from my own front door which I'd never bothered with on my Nicolai as it would be complete overkill. As a result I'm probably riding 3 or 4 times as often.

That looks like some gear satan is pushing btw.... 👿

funnily enough there are few off this ere forum that have raced fix rigid and kicked the arse of lots of gearie lycra jeyboys and the gnarcore brigade. Some of 'em also ride fixed rigid in the rocky bits of the peak.
Just because you don't have the strength or skill spin, doesn't mean it's not done and done bloody well and very fast! 😀
now is not time for little trollsies to go to bo bo's?
Thanks mamadirt 🙂 .... first time ive found this and its only 5 mins from my house !!
Use mine for pub duties, shopping (with panniers), commuting, going to the pub, visiting my folks, popping to mates house, going to the pub, etc
omg! she's got no disc brakes!

I think Tazzy, that you have misinterpreted my post. I was not trolling but genuinely suggesting that the OP go fixed, single brake and fully rigid. I ride just such a bike myself and love it.
Care to apologise for your little strop? 😉
nah...you normally troll like chuff on SS and 29er threads.....it's a pre-emptive for your next one....and get a pic of ya bike up!
Are you forumstalking me tazzy? Genuinely flattered!
no just remember the usual suspects on ss and 29er threads...grumpy usually pops up around now and has a mild rantette about attention whores etc.... as well
I really think you've confused me with someone else. All I've ever posted on 29er or ss threads is the fact that I converted a cotic roadrat to a sort of fixie 29er. No troll just fact.
It's the religion threads I troll on.
I do too!
A rigid forked dmr with just a rear v-brake. Excellent fun!
many apple-ogies spin there is another jolly japester with a similar name..Will return to beer and mumbling into my beard xxxx
Will return to beer and mumbling into my beard xxxx
Well we have those two things in common at least! Happy trails.
I do love show & tell day...
Mine, covered in Cannock...

Tazzy & crew, rocking up at Swinno's for the "Ladies Ride & Beginners" event I see.
Even more inspiration folks !
Will take mine up the hill today and get some snow/slush/ice pics
You mean that there are other types of bikes?

Simon - super cool to bring a ss to places like that, must be really hard..
My SS has 85mm forks on it?
Can I hang at the back of you lot being tolerated rather than accepted?
OCB - that wasn't your Gryphon at Haldon yesterday was it?

Time for the old classic...
mission successful - haven't cranked out the sadlle that hard for years 😯

I put in 33 miles on my rigid SS today, first time I've done any natural stuff without suspension since the late nineties.
Wasn't as bad as I thought to be honest.
I was wondering if I could fit a fat tyre in my carbon on one fork.......?
Clink - MemberOCB - that wasn't your Gryphon at Haldon yesterday was it?
No, not mine Clink ... tho' Haldon is only a little up the road from me.
They'll be about I guess, but I've not heard of any others locally (but then I am a surly curmudgeon, with a tramps beard and a tendency for slightly unusual bicycles, and share the road amongst a herd of anonymous, anodyne carbon road bikes, so few enough cycling people speak to me anyway).
😉
Flashes' Sunn Bmix.. love it. Always wanted one of those.

It doesn't often go out like this, but comes home the next day in a mess when it does.

Tried it - doesn't fit, even with a narrow rim.
Don't know about the newer fancy shape forks though.
Built this up for endurance races, bike packing and general hooning around. Smidge over 19lbs in current spec. [img]
[/img]
It's a Kinesis FF29 with their IX forks.
Fast as a very fast thing on speed.
vortex racing, what is that? It's proper gurt lush..
it's a 16" 2007 Kona Unit with Salsa Cromoto Forks.
I had it resprayed a couple of weeks ago
here is the original thread

Captain & jezandu..... Bikes look sweeeeet... Id love a ss....maybe try to cobble one together for next winter. 🙂
Jameso.
Please contact me, my mate now has the bike but will be selling most of it soon...........
will do..
^^ Wheres the swift gone??
Stripped to build that, in the shed at the mo, want it?
& I have a Dialled Love/Hate that needs a good home some time. Medium I think it is, leastways I am and it fit me! http://www.dialledbikes.com/products/mtb/love-hate.php
Medium too small for me fella, cheers anyway...Still a bit "swift" curious tho 😕
The L/H would be too then.
Nowt wrong with the Swift but the Selma came up and it was too good to let go. Light as a very light thing, fast enough that I come from a ride in bits.
Keywords for the Swift btw are "value" and "versatile".
I believe the guy who won the Brass Monkeys (winter Gorrick) series did it on an SS rigid Swift. But if I wanted a bike to trek through South America, it could do that too.
Very true Matt, but then again my 'bred ticks all of those boxes too...hmmm dilemmas 😕
@fenred For sure, a riding buddy has a new 29er Inbred, the geometry is near identical to the Swift (& he put a Swift fork on it).
swift is far nice than an inbread though..on-ones have that gopping rear end that looks like a kid in leg callipers has been pushed down the stairs.
Matt/tazz - aesthetics aside can you quantify/describe ride 'feel' between swift/inbred? *i know, difficult to articulate*
having ridden both the swift just feels more....well...."lively" for want of a better word. I liked my on-ones but they were all a bit flat. Interesting as the old niner SIR 9 had a very similar geo but was an awesomely better ride than both. about 400 quid better, probably not but definitely better
