Right after some help/info.
G/F running tripple cranks ring but with large ring of 42T and having trouble with seting the mech up due to the mech Top-Middle Min Capacity is 12T. the inner plate rubs the middle ring if you set it up with the outer plate just above the big ring.
I have modfied a LX mech which is a lot better, the gap is anout 3mm between outer plate and big ring, it can't go down any lowwer due to the bottle cage hole on the seat tube.
But G/f said it jamed/not shift very well at the race at the weekend.
So it needs to be lightish (race bike) 34.9 top pull.
SO does anyone know some high end (ish)mech that have top middle of 10T?
would a road double mech work or not enough throw?
Any help would be great Just to give my ears a rest! 😉
youve lost me on the whole top middle bit,
but can you change between a top swing and conventional swing mech to avoid the bottle boss?
my mech is mounted over the bottle mount - cos it needs to be - would that be possibel (or help?)
Thanks guys,
Yes I could/looked at useing a Non conventional clamp mech, but still havn't seen one that can cope with 42 outer, 32 inner ring.
TT, yes I did think of clamping over the bottle hole mount, but it lose the 2nd cage option that she sometimes need for enduro events.
G/F going to have to make a choice!
Any other ideas/choice?
Doesn't specifically exist, most chainsets traditionally have a 12t gap but I still don't really see why it's an issue, I ran a 32/40 for a race whilst waiting for a 28 inner, and it was fine, and virtually everyone at the Paris Roubaix at the weekend ran 44/53 with standard road mechs. Some cheap chainsets come with 22/32/42 as well, and they work fine.
Suggest there may be another problem. Alternatively, the XTR one I used with 32/40 is for sale, having been used a handful of times. 34.9 conventional.
road mech tend to have a smaller back/inner plate, so am look at them a bit more. Just didn't know if they have enough trow to cover 3 rings.
yes there is cheap chainset with 42/32/22 also there are cheap mechs that work with them (top middle of 10T) I have looked at them, but G/F (and myself) are bit of a snob when it comes to are race bikes, we like bling/top end stuff. (training bike not a prob)
I have run a normal mech with the 42T but the gap between the outring and outside plate of the mech is high, just not shifting as crisp with a 44 set up.
I was hopeing someone else had over come the problum some how.
