Looking for a new fork for my full sus as i hate the marzocchi fork on it. both the forks are around the same price the rock shox pike has 20mm bolt and the fox has 15mm bolt.
Which 1 seems better? there both around £350.
I'll give you a bump.
What bike's it for?
Is the Pike air or coil and which model?
Do you have a front wheel which is 20mm or 15mm compatible?
What bike is it. what marzocchi
Depends on purpose. Pike for harder use, Float (or revelation) for everything else.
Kind of an easy one this. I've currently got a Pike Air and have had a Fox Float 150RLC 15mm through until just recently.
The damping performance and set up of the Fox was better than the Pike, especially over big rocks, but the Pike is stiffer by quite a margin.
the fox will be alot lighter but the pike will be more reliable long term and more heavy-duty. Depends what sort of bike you're using it for. Remeber they'll both be very similar axle to crown even though they're 10mm different in travel (150mm fox same height as 140mm rock shox)
Fox all the way. I've had both. The floats are alot tougher than you think and they're the fork of choice for most 4X racers. I run F-series forks on my jump bike.
The bike is a KHS xct 555 currently got a 140mm marzocchi 44 tst2 fork and i hate the way it works. i have had rock shox revelations and there 10x better.
The bike is fine and the rear shock ( monarch 3.1 ) is buttery smooth.
The pikes are 454 coil U turn and the bike has a 15mm bolt through axel atm but my other bike has hope hubs so i can run either.
Just not sure on what forks are better the bike currently weighs 32 pound its not lightweight but there is always room for improvement another option is the Magura thor currently on offer for £360...
what about a rock shox revelation 20mm axle? best of both worlds

That is a very good price for some floats, you'll have to look after them though
EDIT: Forget that, theyre out of stock and i dont think theyre getting more in
found the floats for £335 a little bit dearer.
For that bike, and for what you're probably doing with it, I'd got for the reduced stiffness but superior damping of the Foxes. I run Pikes myself, but wanted a big stiff brute of a fork and the Fox lowers and crown just aren't as anti-bend as those on a Pike.
Tony - Strangely enough I also have an XCT555 and have been feeling the same way about the Marzocchi forks. I pulled the trigger on the On-one Fox 150RLs and am getting them fitted tomorrow. Hopefully have them back Weds PM for a quick blast around Lee Quarry before a bit of Surrey singletrack action over the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes in comparison to the Marzocchis, unless you're planning on buying before then.
I've actually had the Marzocchis recently returned to me from Windwave after new internals were fitted under warranty, so it might be worth checking that yours aren't knackered like mine, (i.e. no discerable difference - or effect - when adjusting rebound damping and lock-out went). They were definitley better but I've got arthritis in my lefthand and still felt the need for something smoother.
My other bike has got RS U-turn coil Lyriks which are so much better than the 'zocchis...will be interesting to see how the Floats compare, (obviously a very different fork but on a different kind of bike).
how you finding the xct 555 albino?
if you could keep me updated on how much they change the bike that would be great always better to get a user's opinion first. i thought marzocchi were good at 1 point i would never recommend them to anyone now. 😕
Recently gone from 454 coils to a set of QR air Revs. Pikes in another league in terms if stifness. Prefer the Revs. Lack the stifness but nicer action. Oh, & 500g lighter. Waiting on a set of maxle revs now, so best of both hopefully. Pikes fab fork if your brave enough, but OTT for what I ride.
Tony - I haven't ridden the KHS properly for a few months now but it was my main bike through Autumn & Winter. Overall it's a great bike once I tweaked it to my preferences - Agree that the Monarch 3.1 shock is good but took quite a bit of bedding in/dialling in to get it right. The forks were generally ok most of the time but let the bike down when riding more aggressively. I finally gave up on them after a ride at Ladybower/Cutgate, there was a great rock-garden style descent which should have been amazing but the forks just couldn't take it at any kind of speed. Had a quick change of bikes with my mate just in case it was my bad riding technique and had no probs on his bike and he really struggled with the forks on the KHS.
Recently ecause of work/kids I've only had the time to do shorter, 2/3 hour rides so I've mostly been riding my Giant ReignX1 at Lee/Cragg Quarry. With the new forks the plan is to use the KHS for longer and slightly less agressive riding on natural trails so hopefully the Floats will do the job, (as well as shedding a pound or 2 from the overall weight).
Anyway mate I'll let you know how things go at some point next week.

Hi Tony - (and anyone else interested)
Sorry for the lack of update forkwise...been somewhat busy. Anyway, with the Fox Float the 555 is like a whole new bike. I've ridden some tasty singletrack down in Peaslake, Surrey as well as several rides around Lee and Cragg Quarry and a most excellent skills day in Hebdan Bridge with Ed Oxley.
First off the weight difference was really noticable. This has made a big difference when climbing and the whole front end seems so much more responsive at all times. This could also be helped by the the much higher quality Qr15 skewer on the Fox.
On the downhill stuff it is also a whole world apart from the Marzocchi. Really buttery through rock gardens and smooth through steps, (even moreso after some great skills tuition from Ed). Still early days but everything is rosy so far.
