I've got a pair of Rockshox Tora 302sl. The kind that come as standard on a rockhopper. I'm not sure of the travel, not being an expert on forks.

Anyway, I've reached a point where they don't seem to be doing much. At the weekend they bottomed out quite regularly with the pounding i was giving them, and I feel I need to upgrade.

What would you recommend? Bearing in mind the bike's only now worth about £250!

I just replaced my Toras on my rock hopper with Rebas. They are very nice! 🙂

I bought them from flying fox bikes, they had a wide range of forks in stock (and they are retail not OEM) - if you cant afford Rebas they had some very nice tora airs that would be good on the rockhopper.

Here is a pic of mine with Rebas. Cause I'm worth it! 😀

Cheers,
David.

If you go for rockshox make sure you get a motion control damper.

I was in the same quandry last year wrt my 08 Rockhopper.
Bang on queue there appeared the On-One offer on Reba Teams. Sadly the offer is long since ended but the forks are great and suit the bike well.

I was on the point of getting rid of the Rockhopper but the Reba Teams made me fall in love with it all over again. Very happy with 'em at 100mm but might even run 'em out to 120mm and give that a try when they're next due some TLC.
If I was to replace the Rockhopper, it'd be with something with a higher BB and slacker head/longer fork so trying 120mm on it might not be so crazy.
Any experiences out there?

Have to ask are the Tora's air or coil, if air have you checked the air pressure lately. It can escape IME especially on the cold weather we've experienced this winter. Tora's are a decent budget fork & shouldn't be written off easily.

Otherwise for your budget i'd look for some Reba's(as above) but doubtful you'll find them new. You'll get some 2nd hand for around £150 & could have them serviced, for piece of mind ,within your budget.
Otherwise the best option for a new fork are Recon's for that budget, same as Reba's just heavier.

I am really please with my Suntour Axon fork. I'm running it in 100mm but can be adjusted internally to 80mm or 120mm. If on a budget then the Raidon is good fork for the money at less that £170 brand new with Air preload and remote lockout.

I'd look at servicing them - not difficult yourself.

You haven't said what your budget is, that would help make answers more useful.

Don't worry about spending more than the bike is worth though, as you can always take the fork with you to a new bike.

IMO you should buy the best forks you can afford, you can always swap them to a new bike/frame when the time comes.
