To keep in the car for post-ride washing. What do you recommend?

Probably something folding so it can be both stable and compact. I've failed with googling because loads of them have a folding arm but still take up a half metre square folded, or they're workstands and all of those fold.

I currently use one of these but it's long and pretty bulky https://www.bike-discount.de/en/xlc-vs-f08-unistage-pro-display-stand

Don’t use it with the van, but this works fine. They’ve improved the lock mechanism by the looks of it.

Oh nice a folding one of that style. 2.25" max but I see there's a Max version although not for sale anywhere in the UK https://www.topeak.com/global/en/product/1544-LINEUP-STAND-MAX

@Tracey: can you use that stand to fiddle with gears and setup? So can the stand support the bike, and allow the rear wheel and cranks to turn freely? (Thanks).

Yes you can. It's strong enough to hold an emtb as well

I bought the earlier version of this, pre Rimpact, and it works very well if it suits your cranks.  Price appears to have doubled though 🙁

Decathlon stand - cheap, robust and packs away really small.

Very similar idea to the one Tracey mentioned above, but 1/3 the price.

We tried a version of the cheap one from Decathlon. Its in the box of don't use again and don't pass on as its very unstable even on a flat surface falls over with the slightest of movement.

sheet.  thought something here might be useful - we have a couple of those Line-Up type stands (feedback sports ones).  They've lived outside for 10 years now and only have a little surface rust on them (wasn't expecting them to last any time at all).  Get used for washing and chain oiling but really aren't great because you cant spin the wheels.

That Rimpact stand looks good but £!30! and no use for e-bikes.  Topeak tune up - great but £70 rrp - I'm sure it's well made but theres really not much to it.

Surely theres something out there between the £15 Decathlon (which doesn't look strong/stable enough for ebikes) and the Topeak that works on a similar principle

I've had a FJM Mk2 stand for my e-bike since 2019  (requires hole through your cranks) great bit of kit, it folds down, and is totally solid. Not cheap, nothing good ever is, but after 5 years use, well worth the price

I've used the Decathlon one for 10ish years with no issues

Stability-wise it's fine in my garage or on grass, but it struggles a bit with gravel.

It's not perfect, but for the £10 I think I paid for it it's been great.

Not used it with an ebike, but I have with a tandem which is probably a similar weight.

Just fool the bike into thinking you're taking a photo of it for a magazine review and it'll stand up all by itself

I use a Minoura stand, similar to the decathlon one which I find is great for fettling and easy to store. Older version of this one https://www.bicyclehero.com/gb/minoura-ds550-alminium-bicycle-stand.html?fee=10&fep=78918&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=UK_bicyclehero_smart_shopping   (I'm sure I didn't pay £43 for it though).

Nothing's beating the Topeaks for me so far. And seconded, can't see where the money is going in the TuneUp one.

Needs to work for eMTB too, and for Rimpact and FJM prices all possible future bikes, so BB mounts are out.

There does seem to be a theme that raising a wheel off the ground and taking the weight on the stand means the stand doesn't need such a large footprint.
