my SPDs on the cross bike have a really irritating click - metallic, almost definitely "just" the cleat moving within the mechanism

They're not old pedals and the cleats not only seem OK but happens with another pair on my spare shoes, whick makes me think it's not wear

Tightening the springs makes no difference

... so WTF's going on ? Is it just the lack of mud to fill the gaps ?

They're not creaking - more like moving a mm inside the pedal mechanism. Much more of a rattly noise. You find that GT85 sorts that too ?

I get both the creaking & the moving.... I think mud is the answer.

I rub my cleats with the base of a wax candle. I still get the odd click or creak but it’s much quieter.
