Just wondering if anybody could help diagnose a problem with my drivetrain?
This weekend the chain has been coming into contact with the back wheel, and getting dragged down past my chainstay with the tyre. It seems like the chain is very loose. I've tried to add more tension to the rear mech but it doesn't really help matters.
Please help! 'Tis doing my nut in!
freehub bearings ok?
ive also seen a seized jockey wheel do something similar
How clean is the whole drivetrain?
Chain too long. Very worn chain. Faulty mech.
Did you fit the chain, and if so how did you size it? If not is this first chain as supplied on bike, as it's known for them to be sized longer than they should be by manufacturer.
The chain could be slightly worn. I replaced it about 6 months ago , just got it the same length as the original chain.
The correct way to size it is big ring front and back plus 2 full links yes?
The freehub is a bit ropey too, I don't understand how this could affect it though?
Yes of course, thinking about it. . . It is probably the freehub. Not freewheeling equals slack chain
That's one of the ways to size a chain from scratch. It's the method I use if I don't trust the old chain length or new bike set up. Though with a full sus you want to account for potential growth with the suspension fully compressed also. Depends on the bike though.
