Had the mtb out today for the first time in ages, lots of fun but when I was cleaning it I thought it sounded rough. Pulled the chain off to spin the cranks on their own and it sounds goosed. Only been out on a few rides 🙁 Got a similar BB on the cross bike which has had lots more abuse but it's fine. Any ideas? Don't hose or pressure wash it, deore external BB bought from CRC around December.
Can't stretch to a CK even from aspire (plus have to drop cash on the lbs when needed new grease)
I'd pull the top hats off the cups and pull off the seal on the bearings and have a look inside - perhaps the bearings are dry, however would poss not explain your findings. Is it squared in the BB - are the faces been faced - putting the cups in a wonky BB wuld probably cause excessive wear? - perhaps they were faulty?
the shell hasn't been faced-its a superfly so you have to kind of assume its all tickety boo. It's an intersting point though, never had an issue with shimano external bbs but always had a faced shell. Hmm maybe ill pop the caps and have a look. Might see how much it is to get them phil woods'ed by sideays
The only assumption i'd make is that if it's not chased and faced then it'll die quickly.
I could see about chasing the threads but its not getting faced
Even heavy rain can make them seize IME.
I don't think chasing the threads will make any difference except making it easier to screw the cups in.
i know but i need some hope to cling onto 🙁
a new bb, new gloves, new brake pads, new degreaser, new tubes, new energy gunk and a new passport-why does everything run or wear out at the same time?
Something to do with Murphy i`m afraid 😥
