Anyone use one and can tell me what they're like? Interested in their weight - do you notice them on the bike? Very tempted to go for the HD Go Pro Surf and then add a chest strap for on the bike, as may have a surf trip to Indonesia lined up for the summer 🙂
Yep - used mine all over North Downs today 8)
Be surprised if you notice it on your bike - it is pretty small, if not as sleek as the Contour. Loads of info on a recent thread. Chest strap view works really well on the bike - then use the 'roll-bar' fitting for mounting on the fork/frame. Really picks up your heart beat when using the chest strap - makes for a techno-beat soundtrack 😆
Can't upload anything meaningfull just now, due to crap internet connection...
I really like it - great picture quality, and should be great in the surf - assume you have seen the demo clips on their website....
I only have the old lo-fi one but most of the same benefits apply, there's nothing else that mounts as well. I don't have the chest mount yet, just ordered one because of this:
Basically in cycling mounting and packaging is far more important than it is in most applications, my old motorbike kit was in about 3 different parts and had 10 foot of cables and needed 2 different power supplies but it didn't matter, only picture quality and price did really. But on the bike you need something durable and waterproof that mounts easily and solidly and doesn't object to vibrations. The Contour seems like a really nice bit of kit, it has some real advantages but the mounting isn't a patch on the Gopro.
The weight isn't really relevant... On a helmet mount you do notice it but it's not problematic as long as you don't ride into any trees! On the bike, it's below the level you'll notice.
Fantastic bit of kit. You'll not notice the weight after a few minutes riding and as stated above, the mounting pads are very strong. Really tough - mine survived a camera first landing onto a huge rock with just a little scratch on the lense cover (replacement lense pack in the post). Picture quality is excellent with a good choice of settings. Data can be a it slow to process/convert for editing due to the file sizes/quality, but a bit of experimenting with settings you can get a good compromise* between decent quality/constant number crunching.
*For other goproers out there. I was converting the native MPG4 files using AVS but they seemed to take forever. Have since discovered a built-in converter in the new RealPlayer (v.11) which you can customise and it's much faster. The quality is not as good, but you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference when it's edited and uploaded onto vimeo/youtube.

on, watch it in HD :D
Cheers everyone 🙂 What about sound quality - heard that was a bit poor??
been using a mates a bit recently. on a full face helmet i think they're pretty much un-noticeable, but i didn't like the added weight on a regular helmet. having said that, as soon as i was riding i fortgot all about it.
haven't tried it bike mounted.
What about sound quality - heard that was a bit poor??
Haven't heard others to compare it against tbh. You do get 2 rear covers for the case. The one i've always used is the waterproof version which is completely encased and the sound is alright. The other cover has 3 big holes in it which is supposed to improve the sound no end. Yet to try it but not an issue as I generally stick some music over the footage.
