I can't quite make out if you have to be a member of any group/organisation to qualify for a 'super randonneur'
Just going to do a quick 200k this month, but with six good months left there's always a chance I could do the 3,4 and 6 this year.
You don't need to be a member of Audax UK to ride a Super Randonneur series (200, 300, 400 and 600km rides) but you do need to ride them in one season (Nov-Oct). It is worth joining Audax UK though - it's only £19/year and you'll save almost half that over the four rides by not having to pay the temporary insurance at £2/ride. You get a pretty good magazine 4 times a year too.
If you get your SR done before the middle of June chances are you'll be able to qualify for Paris-Brest-Paris too. 🙂
Next question. the route card, how good are they? I mean if you followed them to the letter would it get you round.
Little personal problem, I now need reading glasses so I'd have to keep stopping anyway.
Usually, yes. Some route casrds are better than others with distances between instructions, etc. Keep your eyes open and use your bike computer for distance. Quite a few issue .gpx files for the routes now, too.
I fancy having a pop at a Super Randonneur, and at first thought the 200/300/400/600km rides needed to be done in the year. Now I've just read that the season to complete the SR is between January and May.
And as I was going to pop my cherry with a 200 at the end of March it would just leave me two months to complete the task.
So is that season thing right?
If so I'll just kick back this year and enjoy a variety of rides, assuming I enjoy my first one. Then I'll kick off an SR next year with a 200 and 300 in January.
?
It's the first I've heard of it.
www.yacf.co.uk has a good section on audaxing.
