Currently have some of these Shimano MP90's:

Had them a few years and they've been fantastic.
Same sole as the AM41's, but they were very cheap, probably due to their resemblance to the shoes your gran wears at the bowling green.
Tried on a pair of 5.10's when they first came out, but they resembled big sponges and had cardboard insoles.
Have the newer models got any better?
Do they dry out any quicker?
Do they still use cardboard?
Have seen some bargains for little more than price of a Stealth resole of the MP90's, but it would still be a waste of cash if they fall apart over winter.
Don't really want to spend a fortune on AM41's.
Tend to ride in all weathers, so they need to be able to take a beating whilst soaked.
Thanks in advance.
Got two pairs of freeriders - the Danny Mac ones are a lot more robust than std freeriders. Just don't stick them in the washing machine & should last a while - 2 years out of mine atm - ride few evenings and most weekends..
I'm impressed with my 5:10's so far. They've kept my feet dry so far although it has been reasonably dry but when they have got wet they've dried out before the next ride and that's just by leaving them in the boot of the car. They are loads better than my previous skater shows which were awful in the wet.
I'm on the lookout for a decent waterproof flat shoe for winter if one exists. Ideally something like a Northwave in a flat pedal version. Doubt I'll find what I'm after though
Thanks.
They look the most robust.
Do they still have the cardboard insoles/midsoles?
Sorry, but I've had cheap Regatta boots that had these and after their first long day out in the hills they were never the same.
Ideally something like a Northwave in a flat pedal version. Doubt I'll find what I'm after though
My Mrs uses Northwave Missions with flats.
She manages to keep her feet on the pedals, but she takes it easy on the rough downhill stuff.
I might just try some of the Vibram soled Karrimors from Sports Direct. They're cheap & tough, should be ok.
No cardboard in the Freeriders (I think the Impact has also switched to a more quality construction too but I still wouldn't buy another pair, the cardboard wasn't the only reason mine fell apart)
PS, if you think those MPs are ugly, I have the white ones with the gold highlights and Urban Camo soles, they are remarkable. The AM40 sole is a bit different, noticably grippier, not sure about the AM41 as I ended up switching mostly to Sombrio, which are ace- if you can find them
