The other half is heading to Inverness on Friday for the weekend and I have an idea of spending a couple of days in the hills.

Have a vague idea that I should get dropped off in Blair Atholl on Friday evening, ride for an hour or two max to a bothy, spend the night and then next day ride up to and through the Cairngorms for about a 40-50k ride. Another night in a bothy and a short ride (20-30k) on the Sunday to be picked up in the Aviemore area for the journey home. or do the route in reverse, depends on bothy positioning.

Anyone got any route and bothy ideas? 😀

Blair Atholl to Aviemore could be done in a day via the Gaick pass.

If you want to do it in two days then up Glen Tilt and over to the Feshie and stay in Ruigh-aiteachain. Then the next day potter about in Rothiemurchus until your lift arrives?

I recomend a book called "Exploring Scottish Hill Tracks"

Thanks Donald, I'd already found Ruigh-aiteachain and was wondering on how to fit it in.

Druidh, MBA never used to publicise the locations for fear of vandalism but that seems to have changed.

Ampthill, I think a friend has that book so will check it out later on this week.

So far I'm thinking of startinf in Blair Atholl on Friday night and staying at the bothy near Beinn Dearg. Day two head north to Ruigh-aiteachain. This would be a shortish day at about 25k. Day 3 would be Carn Ban Mor (but could do this on day 2 depending on how i'm feeling) and then to Aviemore via Rothiemurchus.

Open to suggestions though. Anyone got any routes starting fron Glenmore\Ryvoan Bothy and ending in Blair Atholl 2 days later. not looking for massive days just nice wilderness experiences.

Cheers

Yo Paul, I did almost exactly the same trip a while ago:

You could bothy at the Tarff Hotel, and then the Bothy in Glen Derry, or the shelter at the Fords of Avon, or Ryvoan (poss busy, I've always assumed it would be full).

The route I did was stunning, but it was very dry at the time, and there were some pitches which were a wee bit unrideable...

13thFM, thanks for the link to your previous trip, food for thought! RE Tarf hotel, what's the best approach? I see there is a landy track that shoots off of Glen Tilt in a NW direction towards the bothy, you then have to head back about 3k (you'll know what I mean if you look at a map). Is this the best approach or is there another?

Cheers
