Pole’s first eMTB is called the Pole Vol… Voima

Pole Bicycles hasn’t taken your suggestions to name their eMTB the Pole Volt (pole vault get it?) but instead the Voima, meaning ‘Power’.

Pole Bicycle’s first eMTB has launched and its name is the Pole Voima, a Finnish word meaning ‘Power’. Pole has gone for a CNC machined aluminium frame housing a Brose motor and a large 725Wh battery which should power the compact drive unit for quite some time despite the 90nm of Torque it offers.

Not only is the Voima the first eMTB from the Finnish bike maker, but it’s also the first Pole to sport the new Sensei Suspension system. What’s interesting is that Pole states the Sensei platform is developed specifically for bikes with a motor or a gearbox perhaps hinting at something else to come? The suspension produces 190mm of travel with a progressive stroke and little pedal feedback. Pole’s engineers have mounted the shock sideways to reduce stress on the shock bushings, and its placement means there is still room for a bottle.

If you are thinking of fitting a bottle on the Voima then you’ll be bolting it to the removable hatch that gives access to the large 725Wh battery. Unlike most designs which feature a door to get at a battery, Pole has kept the opening inside the main triangle rather than below it. In addition, the charging port is located higher up on the frame to keep it away from splashes and sitting water.

The large battery powers a Brose S Mag motor that is full integrated into the frame. A large aluminium shell bolts around the motor for added protection against trail obstacles and to further improve the weatherproofing of the bike.

Pole has even taken dropper post cable routing into consideration and assures us that the motor doesn’t need to be removed on their bike to get a dropper post neatly cabled up.

Being a Pole you can rest assured that the geometry looks a little more extreme than what we see from some eMTB makers with an 80-degree seat tube angle, 63.5-degree head angle and reach figures ranging from 450mm – 535mm across 4 sizes.

Pole Voima Features

  • NEW Brose S Mag Motor and BMZ V10 725W battery – 4 year manufacturer warranty on the motor
  • Battery install from the top of the downtube
  • Power inlet close to the headtube away from elements
  • Elevated chainstays for less chain slap and ease of use
  • Suspension kinematics that works perfectly with a motor
  • Brose Motor set completely inside the frame covered from the elements
  • ISCG-05 mount
  • Seat post cable can be installed without removing the motor
  • Disk speed sensor
  • SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger
  • Two bottle mounts. One down of downtube and one top of the downtube
  • The only 7075-T6 aluminium-framed e-bike in the world
  • An exclusive Pole suspension platform and design.
  • Double bearing links

Pole is opening up the pre-sale of Voima ebikes today with customers required to pay a €200 deposit to secure their bike. Customers jumping on the chance to ride this machined, motorised Pole will also benefit from a discount. Early bird pricing for the Pole Voima frame is €5490 which complete bikes from €8490. After this initial launch pricing is over the frame will increase to €5990 and complete bikes to €8990 which might sound like a lot of money but it’s quite a saving over a £12,500 Specialized.

As we’re seeing with most bikes now, due to supply chain issues don’t expect to get to meet a Voima in the flesh before early 2022. For more details visit the Pole Bicycles website.

I personally think that no matter how good your suspension system performs, if the bike itself is pig ugly it won’t sell much.
