Vote Now: Best Trail Team – Singletrack Reader Awards

by 0

This award is about the trails we ride. Which organisation has got people maintaining trails, learning building skills, creating sustainable and legitimate trails? Is it a dig crew, a community project, or even a trail centre that’s had people picking up a shovel in the name of future fun?

Aberdeenshire Trail Association

Aberdeenshire Trail Association, working with support from Developing Mountain Biking In Scotland, has adopted a network of seven local trails. In doing so, it’s helped the area become a destination for riders, events, and brands shooting promotional videos and marketing material. In an area that’s three hours from Edinburgh and ten hours from London, it speaks to the quality of the trails that so many are making the trip to experience it. Perhaps the enthusiasm and effort involved in bringing these trails to life and making Aberdeenshire a great mountain biking destination is worth your vote?

Dean Trail Volunteers

The Dean Trail Volunteers is a fully voluntary group who works in partnership with Forestry England to maintain and develop the mountain bike trails at the Forest of Dean. They’ve recently hand built the new ‘Adit’ trail, a six mile extension to existing red trails in the area, and last year rebuilt Launchpad, an accessible trail suitable for adaptive mountain bikes. To manage to maintain existing trails and build new ones in such a busy trail centre location is an impressive feat that you may think deserves your vote.

Trail Collective North Wales

Established to help provide a sustainable future for the wild trails around the Gwydir Forest area, Trail Collective North Wales has yet to officially put spade to soil, but has already caught the attention of the Welsh Government. They’re still at the stage of securing maintenance agreements with Natural Resources Wales and other landowners, but in the process of doing so they’re paving the way for a potentially significant policy shift that could save trail volunteers in Wales hours of meetings and administration. They’re doing the admin so you don’t have to, and perhaps that will be enough to earn your vote?

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
