Fancy a bit of a challenge? The second Kielder 101 off-road endurance race is on September 3rd 2016, so you’ve got plenty of time to get training…
The event is centred around the Kielder Castle, which has proved itself as a hub for endurance races over the years, and the course aims to take riders through lesser-ridden parts of the forest – and we’re assured that a large percentage being singletrack. The organisers tell us that 99.9% of the route is off road – which basically amounts to a scant 101 metres of road schlepping…
As an alternative for those looking for a less frantic (or painful) day out, the new Border Challenge is a non-race format 60km single lap within the same area as the 101 race. 60k is still not to be sniffed at, mind, but it’s not a race, people. However, both events are timed and they’re also fully supported.
