Catch Martyn at the Tweedlove Film Night

The TweedLove team are thrilled to announce that Martyn Ashton is coming to the Shimano TweedLove Bike Festival film night, to talk about the ups and downs of his amazing career. Martyn is a former British and World Champion mountain bike trials rider and team manager. He had been riding professional trials since 1993 and is an actual bonafide bike legend. He has been credited with turning trials from a niche form of riding into the sport it is today. Ashton was paralysed in an accident in 2013, during a bike trials demo at the British Moto GP. He’s been one of the most watched and most skilled riders of all time.

The Tweedlove organisers are also very chuffed to welcome Peebles based adventurer Ed Shoote who will share some of his stunning stories and photography from his adventures backpacking in Central Asia. Ed is a bit like Forest Gump, when he starts cycling he struggles to stop; in 2013 he hit Istanbul before stopping, in 2014 he reached China, in 2015 Afghanistan was closed so he headed back through Tajikistan. Last year he decided to try solo 24 hour racing and won a UK title in his first ever race.

The Shimano TweedLove film night is a mixed media overload of inspirational talks, short films, slideshows and the same fun vibe as ever. The winning films from the annual TweedLove Film competition will be shown – this has attracted some original ideas and high quality submissions every year so get your entry in. Kids films, arty films, adrenaline films… doesn’t matter as long as it’s on theme – bike show some of the top entries (great prizes for the winners) and there might be a special extra prize for best film featuring the Tweed Valley.

The TweedLove photo competition is also back, so get your camera out and get snapping! As long as your photo is somehow related to bikes then it’s a potential entry. Again winners will be announced by our own editor, Chipps, at the Film Night, and the audience will be invited to view the best selection which will be framed and hung at the Eastgate studio as part of a month long exhibition. Great prizes, fame and a chance to see your work hanging on the wall await the winners.
