Cannondale is the new title sponsor for the British Enduro Series (BES) for 2016/2017. The BES will henceforth be known as the Cannondale BES.

There will be five events throughout the UK; each event will include six timed stages, three on Saturday pm (for seeding) and three on Sunday pm for the overall position. The final event on Sunday will finish in the BES arena, presumably for maximum whoopage and hollering. Mornings will be reserved for waking up/drinking coffee/practice/coffee/falling off/grumbling about the weather/practice again. This is, in this writer’s eyes, an entirely civilised approach.

The people behind the Cannondale BES are the same ones who brought you the British Downhill Series – so if anyone knows about delivering the gnar, it’s them.

Timing will be provided by Action Sports Timing (AST), who are at the forefront of timing technology with the very latest Active Pro Transponders, GPS synchronised systems, wireless data transmission and their own Satellite system. Text messages, and all the very latest timing tech is promised.

And prize money?  There’s an £8k prize purse to be split equally between the male and female riders, with an additional £20k in prizes for the top five.

Simon Paton is the event director: “With Cannondale on board as the title sponsor for the next two years, it allows us to build the British Enduro Series into one of the leading national enduro series in the World with a brand synonymous with enduro racing. We have brought in industry-leading partners, workforce and infrastructure to deliver The Cannondale BES equal to our revered British Downhill Series. The Cannondale BES will be the pinnacle of UK enduro racing, attracting the very best teams and athletes the UK has to offer, culminating in the National Enduro Championships at the final round in August.”
Cannondale Marketing Manager Clive Gosling said, “We are very excited to partner with Si and his accomplished team on The Cannondale BES. With world class organisation, venues and support from a brand that’s been at the forefront of enduro from the start, it’s going to be a great series and will highlight the hotbed of enduro talent that lies in the UK. We’ll be at every round with our race truck along with full Trigger and Jekyll demo fleet and look forward to bringing some special guests from our Global Overmountain Team to various events.”

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
