Interbike 2015: Uvex Electronic Sunglasses

A look into the future?

On, and off.
On, and off.

Uvex’s new (and awesomely-named) Variotronic sunglasses are apparently a cycling world first, taking advantage of quick-change LCD technology to electronically vary their tint based on lighting conditions.  When either triggered by an onboard sensor or switched manually, the Variotronic S half-frame and Variotronic FF full-frame mesmerizingly shift from light to dark in one-tenth of a second.

Battery life is approximately fifty hours in normal use and recharging (via USB) takes under two hours.  Not terribly heavy, the Variomatic S hits the scale at a well-balanced 115g.  The technology has been used by skiers and fighter jet pilots for several years- and is now available to cyclists willing to part with $330 (£210).
