Eurobike 2015: Marin

by 4

Marin – venerable, Californian, and frankly, looking to their roots.  Those of you with long memories might remember a time when the Eldridge Grade (for example) came in a grey colour-scheme and a matching fork – well, lookee here!

Marin Pine Mountain

IMG_0125Retro, yet forward looking. Impressive. This is the Pine Mountain 1. The (not quite as prevalent as we were expecting) 27.5+ wheels, and the retro touches seem to be doing the business on the Marin stand.IMG_0131 Check out the seatpost clamp! It’s BACK TO THE NINETIES! But if you want to lower your saddle in a hurry, you’ll need a dropper – there’s no provision for a QR. But it’s a bargain-tastic £750! Wowzers.IMG_0126Here’s the Pine Mountain 2. Better spec, bouncy fork (yay!) bouncy wheels, and some internal dropper and other cable routing…IMG_0127…in a semi-transparent finish which shows off the brazing. Looks good.IMG_0132 Made from Columbus Thron tubing, too. Sweet.IMG_0133 Bendy seat-tube for clearance. One by only.IMG_0130And a more modern seatpost clamp. It’s got a KS Lev dropper post, too.IMG_0134 Here’s a pic of a retro Marin, just because. Check out the Mag21 fork!   IMG_0137 Love the colourscheme of the Mount Vision Pro – very Gulf.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
