Fresh Goods Friday 219

by 5

John Travolta was like me: I’ve got chills. They’re multiplying, and I’m losing control.

But unlike John, I know to go and see a doctor about it, or at least quaff some lemsip.

Admittedly, this wouldn’t have made for quite the resolution with Olivia Newton John he was hoping for, but at least he’d have been safely tucked up in bed. While he was there, perhaps he could have fired up his ’50s laptop and taken a squint at the new and spangly spangles that came into the office this week: It’s Fresh Goods Friday! WOOP!

Niner Air Carbon

DSC_0274
Extra Large, ultra light.

Barney’s got a new carbon frame to hang fancy XTR things off. It’s billed as an XC race frame (and it’s certainly light enough), but it’s built to take a proper trail-shaped pounding too. It’s got room for 2.4in tyres, a 142mm bolt through back end, internal cable routing, routing for a stealth dropper post AND Di2 (when it appears) and a very lovely colourscheme indeed.

Pretty head badge

It’s  got a tapered headtube, natch, and a lovely polished badge.

Ti frame protectors – all the bling

And if you should have any chain-related droppage issues, all that expensive carbon is protected by plates of the purest Ti (alloy)!

BOS Dizzy fork

You’re making me Dizzy…

This new XC 29er fork in 120mm flavour has lots of exciting tech to set your swonnicles revolving. It’s 1580g, it has a closed cartridge damper system which acts on both high and low speed damping curves, tip top seals on 32mm stanchions apparently mean long, long service intervals and a swish Thru-Axle ..erm.. axle. We can’t wait to get it ridden.

Niner Bio-Centric 30 EBB

DSC_0272

This clever little widget allows you to convert your (alloy or steel) PF30 BB frame to run a singlespeed without faffing around at the derailleur end, or to tweak your riding position or BB height. It comes with its own bearings to minimise any moving parts for minimum creakage. Designed for Niners, but apparently it’ll work with any PF30 BB shell. Noice.

Showers Pass Body Mapped Baselayer

let himself go
Paul Gilbert’s let himself go. Dear god. Pass the mind bleach.

Barney is desperately holding it in for the camera in this baselayer from Showers Pass. Lovely and warm, made from a blend of material including merino, spandex, nylon and modal, it’s got long sleeves with thumbloops and a long torso for riding in. And it’s also tight, as the bodymapped name would suggest. So there’s nowhere for Barney to hide…

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
