Good shoes for the daily ride?
While some in the office love the superflash Empire VR, as much as any red-blooded shoe pimp should, Giro’s coming Petra VR and Rumble VR shoes are interesting in an altogether different way.
Retailing for $80 (£69.99 in the UK), the Rumble is a clipless shoe that combines a pedaling-friendly nylon shank with a walkable Vibram sole and padded heel.
The Petra is the ladies’ version and comes in a pair of great (and not overtly girly) colour combinations. The microfibre uppers are well-ventilated- which is just fine given that their target market isn’t really the all-weather rider. They also aren’t overly bike-y, which could make them a good commuting/errand/touring option.
Men get a similar look- the black with splashes of this year’s ‘it’ colour: Glowing (orange-y) Red or a classy navy/gum. Outfitting a beginner rider? After a helmet, gloves, and glasses these could be a good next step.
