Gravity brand’s unique take on cross-country

Five years after beginning with downhill helmets, French helmet maker Urge has expanded their line through Enduro (EndurOmatic) and All Mountain (All-Mountain) riding to, with today’s release of the SupAcross, cross-country.  Featuring the company’s trademark circular vent, the new helmet is reasonably light at 260g (claimed), prioritizing safety over ultimate light weight.  The most unique aspect of the design is likely the integrated mini-peak- a surprise given the outsized visors on some of the brand’s other offerings.

In a nice touch, the helmet uses a recycled EPS shell, recycled PET straps, and minimal, readily-recycled packaging.  Altogether, the recycled content makes up 90% of the helmet, earning it a 6/7 on Urge’s own eco-scale. Urge is also a member of 1% for the Planet, and donates a percentage of sales to environmental causes.  The helmet will be available in Europe shortly for €150 – in the US around mid-March.  Features include:

  1. Recycled EPS shell
  2. Gangsta Pad anti sweat system
  3. Custom retention system
  4. Integrated visor (peak)
  5. 14 large, shaped vents

It’s a unique looking helmet- and no one will mistake it for anyone else’s work.  It looks as though Urge has made an honest effort to address cross-country riders’ needs and has – as with their other models – ended up with something a bit unusual.  The company’s press release is a pleasantly earnest attempt to reach beyond (what was until now) their gravity-oriented circle.  It’s a bit roughly translated, but the point still comes across, making it worth a quick read.

Mountain-biking and riding is our culture, our passion. Manufacturing the best helmets is our sole purpose, our eternal quest.
The richness of our sport lies in its diversity. So many different influences contribute to enriching it, whether it be freeride from British Columbia yesterday or enduro from southern Europe today. Tomorrow, new paths will open towards an even more international and diverse world of mountain-biking.

Every one of these disciplines merits our attention and a product development that’s precise so this year, after 5 years of hard work, we are proud to offer a complete range.

90% manufactured from recycled materials, it is nonetheless at the cutting edge in terms of security. Where safety is concerned, we leave nothing to chance. We make no compromises to save a few grams for example.

We are making our own way and the more riders we meet on it, we are encouraged to go even further.

Cross your country, cross many countries, never stop riding a mountain bike. This is what we do. We wish it for you too.
