If you fancy attempting a hill climb on the steepest cobbled road in West Yorkshire then get yourself to Hebden Bridge on the 7th September.

Now in it’s third year the Up The Buttress hill climb is open to all riders on any bike (so long as it’s roadworthy). Starting from the ancient packhorse brideg in the centre of Hebden Bridge the short 400 yard course heads directly up a road named ‘The Buttress’. The rules are simple – fastest time to the top, wins.

Beware the Buttress though – this is a road that has a hand rail for pedestrians as the gradient max’s out at around 1 in 4. The event is part of the week long Calderdale Walk & Ride Festival. For a flavour of what to expect have a look at last year’s gallery here. And if you fancy having a go the price is just £10 (payable on the day at registration) and you can ensure you get a place by reserving your entry using the form below.

There are three categories and the winner in each category will be suitably ‘medalled’ and cheered. There will be an ever increasing prize pot that includes a complete bike from Orange plus loads of extra prizes from Yorkshire tea to Singletrack subs. All prizes will be raffled off to the race entrants and all each racer has to do to be entered is complete the climb. Simple.

To have a go, just fill in the form below and turn up with your bike at the Singletrack registration stand with your tenner by 1pm on Saturday the 7th September.

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" – from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.
