RS4 Avant. That engine is a masterpiece.
It looks a bit more subtle than an M3, can carry bikes, dogs, kids etc. Recaro buckets are amazing and the house is pretty epic. Job done!

+1 for the Passat and a collection of bikes.
Supercars and super-saloons are all well and good, but it's hard to find places to enjoy the performance on our crowded roads. I'd be inclined to maybe seek out a track day special instead. Porsche 968 Club Sport perhaps and some slick tyres to chuck in the boot?
If I go through the lists of cars people have posted, most of them are still going to suffer a lot of depreciation and cannot really be enjoyed on a public road. If it were me, I might seek out something too compromised for the road (but road legal) together with a practical road car and once I get bored of the toy, sell it for almost as much as I paid for it. Things like the Ariel Atom or Radical spring to mind, or as I've already mentioned, the 968 or Boxster.

My mate had an RS4 Avant but sold it after less than a year due to running costs - it drank petrol more than his 911 GT3 but was insanely fast.

968 and Boxster underrated. Everyday and track worthy.
I'd rather have Elise/Exige or Caterham than a Radical as track toys, though.It's just nice when the practical car provides some fun, too.
And that's where it becomes interesting because you can find really good cars for little money.
I had an E30 325i 4door for a while. It took the kids to nursery in the morning and "commuted me" to work. Its fun started at (licence friendly) low speeds and it was absolutely OK (if not ultimately fast) on track days and fast B-road stuff. It was fantastic fun on snow with good winter tyres and its LSD. The engine is legendary.
Downside: fuel consumption and rust.
But what a fantastic few years! Rust in peace!While I wouldn't recommend an E30 as 'the practical car' today (age, rust, passive safety) I believe that later 3 Series and 1 Series BMW still provide fun driving interaction and fair practicality. And the 320d, 120d versions have punch and economy covered in spades.
I hear a Golf 5 GTI and the Octavia RS is good, too.

rx8s are an absolute hoot to drive. And plenty of space for passengers etc. No good for bikes tho. Bootlid is aluminium to save weight so cant support weight of a rack. Trust me I know!

It's all down to priorities I suppose. If the OP has £30k spare then good for them, I'm certainly not going to mock them out of envy. Even if I am a tad envious...
£30k buys a lot of car if you cast your net wide enough. Surely a Bentley Arnage is within that range now if you want a proper Gentleman's Express?
I do love the idea of driving purity though. My current Alfa 147 is nice enough to punt around, but the steering is too numb and the stability wotsit complains when I turn it off and indulge in lift off oversteer. My old Mk2 Golf 16v would paint a smile on my face that would last all day without me breaking the speed limit (it would just touch sixty in second gear before the limiter cut in!). The idea of 4WD saloons or German coupes with a lot of processing power between my hands and feet and the tyres just leaves me a little cold.
The thought of an E30 BMW is really quite appealing, I once hankered after an old, old M3 but far too many have been turned into pups.
Hmmm...has no-one mentioned Noble yet? Track pedigree, plenty quick and a friend of mine who owned one wouldn't stop raving about it.

MRanger - the RS4 a family friend had was epic. Especially its fuel consumption. It was worth it for the noise though!
The E9X M3 is nice, but I think it looks a bt fat compared to the E46 (still one of BMW's prettiest, well proportioned cars), so how about an E46 M3 CSL; depreciation will be minimal and its a pretty special. The tweaked straight six has a fanastic rasp as well.

Can second the E46 CSL, I had one, it was mental. Some chap offered more than I paid for it so I sold it. E46 was the best M3 imo (yes even better than the E30)

E92 BMW M3 - 4.0 V8 engine, 420bhp, seats 4. can be had for well under 30k and well under 5 years old.
You'll get two bikes in the boot with the seats folded, or 3 on the roof using bars. Fits four adults (but not when the bikes are in the boot), Goes very fast , is fun, is reliable, sounds great.
Downsides are the fuel consumption is pretty terrible if you do lots of short journeys, but its not too bad on a long run (24mpg is what I get).

i have a y reg fiesta you can have for that back seats are knackered so fits the billas a 2 seater and I will throw in my son's norco runner which he has grown out of, paypal gift addy in profile
