Chain device is a Gamut P20, so 32t front ring specific. It’s OK, fits up nice and easily with almost no faffing, but the lower roller is pretty much useless as a roller now.

Awesome bike, but overkill for what I was riding.

I stayed with Dialled though and got a 2010 green PA.

Same as Jamie, was fantastic going DH especially really steep and rocky stuff, but for 90% of my riding it was too much

Again sold. Really loved the bike but at 5’9″ I sat between the two sizes and opted for the smaller. On relfection probably should have gone for the bigger…

I’m just under 6ft but I’m riding a small and loving it.

Yes it’s a Gravity Dropper, 400mm long. This one is pretty good actually, it’s been very reliable and works really well. I also have a Turbo multi-drop one but I’m selling that as I now have the Rockshox Reverb, which I prefer.

Nearly finished the buid – just a few zip ties needed here and there. Not too happy with the rear brake line it needs a banjo rather than a straight fitting really..but thats a bit tarty really!

Really don’t undestand the number of people who have sold their Alpines. I can’t ever imagine getting rid of mine. Yes, it’s a bit heavy but it’s not that much heavier than my Soul once you allow for the Marzocchi Z1s strapped to the front of it! It’s also so much fun to ride and so forgiving, it’s the only bike I would ever think about riding if I was going on an exporatory ride where I didn’t know what I might find terrain wise. Can’t wait ’til I can afford to put some Fox Talas on the front to make it lighter and make climbing a little easier; although with the ETA on the Z1s it’s not too hard to climb with at the moment.

Still: each to their own.

Frame sizes I think. Mk1 was available in 15.5 and 17. MK2 is available in a 16 instead of 15.5

You did. As I had the 15.5″ x 22″ frame and I think there was a 21″ version.

yup, I’ve got the short 15.5″ …… not the most sensible choice when things get really steep (or if you want to ride any distance), but great fun everywhere else 🙂

Jamie, that’s a long. The shorts are bloody tiny! Measures up at 20.5″ iirc

Grizzpup – i’d be after that frame if it wasn’t that colour, though it is beautiful, cannae be having a maroon bike.

Mk1s came in a mind boggling (to some) 4 sizes: 15.5″ and 17.5″ each with 2 different top tube lengths.

Mk2s come in 16″/22.25″ TT and 18″/23.25″ TT. Chain stay and seat stay bridges are also CNC plates instead of tubes.

Tube sizes and butts are same on both though.

MussEd – pics don’t do the translucent red colour justice.

sold mine too, used it for over a year but as an only bike used on the north shore it was getting too painful, swapped all the parts onto a bullit and not regretting getting rid of it. It was a great bike but so much more fun with rear suspension again.

mike – MussEd has a very important reason he couldn’t consider that colour of frame. A Kwaker green might suit him though 🙂

I’ve had both a 17″ x 23″ mk1 & an 18″ mk2.

I sold the mk1 & regretted it then bought a mk2. Instantly i didnt get on with mk2. I think my problem was that the bottom bracket on mine was significantly higher than quoted on Dialled’s website – Mike quotes 12.76″ but my mk2 measured over 14.5″ with Pikes at 140mm unsagged. I got rid based on how this made it feel so perched. The Mk1, despite having the same build, didn’t feel anywhere near as perched, but because it wasn’t an issue I never measured the BB height. I’ve a feeling that was much closer to the quoted figures.

I think, and I am sure that Mike will correct me on this, that it would be nigh on impossible for there to be a manufacturing error of that magnitude.

It’s not uncommon for mass produced frames to be out line after they’ve been welded and heat treated (I’ve heard Commencals and Intenses are notorious for this) but having incorrect geometry would require someone to reset the welding jig incorrectly before a production run started. That would mean you have a whole run of frames that were wrong and I imagine it would be easily spotted.

geetee1972 – lovely spec you have there, especially now that you have a reverb. Just out of interest how do you rate the point one podiums? I’m trying to talk myself out of a pair at the minute as there is absolutely nothing wrong with the chrome nanos on my soul but i’m lusting after the new raw version.

I think they do the job pretty well. They do offer very good levels of grip compared to the Nuke Proof Protons I have on my full suss. Those (the Protos) are stupid light (on account of being the ti axle version) and they are grippy enough, but once or twice I have lost my footing on them in especially rough sections.

Apart from better grip they are almost as light as the Protons without having a ti axle, although they are still pretty expensive pedals. They also offer really good ground clearance. Although i’m using them on a hardtail (so the BB height is fixed is my point here) they still have all their pins so I’m getting decent clearance from them.

Not had them all that long so hard to comment on longevity, but they’ve held up fine for the three months or so I’ve had them. I do like the design of them; they seem to offer something a little different in the way they execute being just a pedal if that comment makes any sense?
