  • TZ7 – AVCHD Video and Macs…

I have just bought a TZ7 and the video quality in AVCHD is excellent. I can play the videos on my Mac when the camera is connected but it doesn't allow me to copy them direct to the computer (via imovie). Can this be done on the PC format only?

Is it just that the Mac is capable of handling AVCHD?

JPEG movie format works fine but is obviously no where near as good.

    Thanks

I have a feeling that imovie might not support AVCHD natively, or something funny like that. I know when we looked at it (end of last year), Apple Final Cut Pro didn't play nicely with our AVC HD cameras.

We solved it by buying Premiere, which is fantastic, but that was a lot of money, I'm sure there is a cheaper solution.

It would appear that the TZ7 uses AVCHD Lite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD)

Handbrake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HandBrake will convert it for you.

Bit of discussion here too http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1936547

iMovie stores the video just like iphoto stores your photos, AVCHD creates several files for one video not just one like with JPEG Movie.

edit, need the latest iMovie i think.
