Looking to get a week or 10 days in Scotland. From memory I remember there being some mega riding days out on the Rothiemurchus estate, but fancied not staying in Aviemore again as we've stayed there before. Wondered about staying nearer Fort William? What's the natural riding like in that area? Any other suggestion as a base for a holiday? Will take both MTB and road tandem.

Wouldn't really fancy 10 days staying IN fort william, would maybe try and stay somewhere like Arisaig or something. For natural riding you have the shores of loch morar (technical and not 100% rideable, but beautiful) plus various trips into the hills such as the Lairig Leacach route behind Ben Nevis, or any of the various Kinlochleven routes.
Ardnamurchan is riddled with good roads for the tandem, and if you staying in Arisaig then Skye would potentially be a day trip away, for road riding or MTB in Glen Sligachan.

Wifey's coming so need to be ridable trails. We're not down hill freaks, more the Merida event type folk. I had some great days out on the Rothiemurchus estate, and enjoy forest riding, but didn't fancy Aviemore again. Have been to Fort Will. Yeah, I'm not keen on staying there for 10 days either! We'll rent a self catering cottage and take our dog(s) so any recommendations as to pet friendly accom welcome.

How about Pitlochry? Not quite as far to travel as Aviemore, but still some nice natural trails http://singletrackworld.com/trailguide/uk/northern-scotland/pitlochry/ and loads of quiet back roads for the tandem... oh.. plenty of tea and cake stops too!

You could do worse than visit us down here in the Scottish Borders for a day or two of fanstastic natural riding. We have miles and miles of rolling hills, drove roads, totally accessible countryside and all the riding challenges you can find in other places in Scotland.
