Hi,
A stone must have flicked and chiped some of the black paint on my fork crown. Over time this has got bigger as it flaked off around the chip. As its looking a bit scruffy i'd like to correct it.
So aside from the obvious of not getting paint on the stanchions can anyone give me any tips to make it look as good as new?

Forks off bike, mask everything around it, tidy it up with a bit of sand paper, few coats of black primer spray, sand it down a bit, few coats of black colour spray, jobs a good un...
Just mask everything all the way down the fork etc as over-spray is a nightmare.
Cool i was thinking along the same lines, but always good to get a 2nd opinion.
Only fidley bits to mask are the negative valve and motion control but as im stripping to service then it makes life a bit easier.
I'd touch up the area in question only - it'll never stick as well as the original paint.
I thought about that but then i thought it might have different paint thickness and colour match which might look odd, got to sand it to get it flat and then spraying is the only option.
Might be worth trying though as it would be way easier and cheaper. If its no good i could do the full job.
You might also want to think about the idea that you're probably going to get a lot more of this. It IS "Mountain" biking, after all, not swishing along a lot of smoothie blacktop.
I've had a lot of chip damage on my original Rev forks since I bought them and I couldn't honestly say that I could be fagged to go to all that trouble.
I just went down to Boots and picked out a "close enough" colour match nail varnish, then daubed it over the exposed under-metal.
You can't see the difference unless you pay REALLY close attention - I suppose it just depends on how fussy you are about that sort of thing...
Look at the range of pretty mountain bikes and trim out there and tell me most people dont care what their bikes look like!!!!! 
Im not mega fussy about the odd scratch but this flaking is getting bigger and looking wang. More than anything im likely to upgrade next year and as i would be put off buying something with a fair hefty cosmetic mark on, i expect others would too.

other option is to strip the lot off and polish the crown. requires care and elbow grease but can look much better with very little £
