Not buzzin’ mate.

Our test samples haven’t touched downin the UK yet so here’s the PR bumf for now…

Press release in full:

SHIMANO Introduces New DEORE M7200/M6200 Family

An infusion of high-performance technology and sleek finish elevates the new DEORE components to an upgrade-worthy groupset.

With options for all categories of riding, built to the standard of SHIMANO MTB groups and matching the sleek black and grey finish of DEORE Di2, SHIMANO presents an expanded and elevated DEORE family. All the hallmarks of a true MTB group are delivered with high-power consistent brakes, lightning-fast mechanical shifting under load, a derailleur designed to survive big hits, and superior cockpit ergonomics.

Built for riders who value durability, quick shifting, mechanical simplicity, and consistent braking, the new DEORE lineup brings advanced derailleur design, improved ergonomics, and performance braking options to one of mountain biking’s most trusted component families.

  • Robust Drivetrain Construction – Built to survive trail impacts for rider confidence.
  • Modern Mechanical Performance – Trusted cable-actuated shifting with updated ergonomics.
  • Enhanced Chain Stability – Chain stabilizer and dual-spring construction increase spring force by 70% for better chain engagement and reliability over rough terrain.
  • Predictable Braking Control – Refined power application with consistent performance and modulation in a wider temperature range.

Robust Drivetrain Construction

At the heart of the new DEORE M7200/M6200 drivetrain is the robust rear derailleur engineered to deliver smooth, reliable shifting even under heavy pedaling. The derailleur features a low-profile wedge shape stabilizer design, similar to Shimano’s latest Di2 mountain bike drivetrains. Its slim shape helps deflect trail impacts and avoid snagging on rocks or obstacles, allowing the derailleur to spring back into position without missing a shift.

Rear Derailleur Technology Features

  • Low Profile Design – SHIMANO SHADOW ES technology delivers a wedge-shaped design that reduces the derailleur’s front-facing surface area and eliminates edges that could catch on rocks and roots.
  • Super Strong Design – The rear derailleur body boasts a wide, well-braced linkage and solid pulleys to minimize debris entry and ensure durability.
  • New Chain Stabilizing Technology – With SHIMANO SHADOW ES technology, the dual spring design creates higher chain tension for better chain wrap and retention.
  • Options for both HYPERGLIDE+ and LINKGLIDE – Riders have the ability to choose between lightning fast shifting under load with HYPERGLIDE+ or prioritize maximum durability and smoothness with LINKGLIDE.

Wide-Range Cassette

To serve different price points, SHIMANO introduces two new 12-speed cassette options within the DEORE lineup. The CS-M7200 pairs durable steel cogs with a 51T alloy cog for a lighter, more performance-oriented package. The CS-M6200 prioritizes value and maximum durability to withstand season after season of use.

Refined Shifting Ergonomics

The new DEORE shifter delivers improved ergonomics and a more precise shifting feel. The redesigned lever features a shorter stroke and crisp actuation, paired with an optimized paddle that creates a nearly straight path for the first two shifts. This improvement in ergonomics follows the movement of the human hand, allowing riders to engage the shifter more naturally.

Multiple shifters are available to accommodate different bikes and drivetrain options. For 12-speed HYPERGLIDE+ drivetrains, the SL-M6200 shifter features multi-shift for regular bikes, while the SL-M6210 shifter is designed as an option for high-torque e-bikes and allows only single shifts to avoid cassette damage. A third shifter option, the SL-M6230, is designed for 11-speed LINKGLIDE systems. All DEORE shifters are available in both I-SPEC EV and clamp band options.

Powerful Braking System

The new DEORE brake levers and calipers benefit directly from trickle-down technology developed at the XTR and DEORE XT levels. The result is refined power delivery and predictable modulation that remains consistent across changing terrain and temperatures.

The updated DEORE system allows riders to tailor braking performance to their needs, pairing a single-lever (BL-M6200) with either a powerful four-piston caliper (BR-M6220) or a lighter two-piston option (BR-M6200). Upgraded internal seals and Shimano’s reformulated low-viscosity mineral oil ensure smooth fluid flow between lever and caliper, maintaining consistent braking feel in both hot and cold conditions.

DEORE Brakes

The lever features Shimano’s SERVO WAVE track for faster pad engagement and smooth, controllable power ramp-up. In combination with the newly designed calipers, the system delivers stable piston rebound and reliable performance across long descents and changing trail conditions.

  1. Does this mean shimano’s range will now be just deore, xt and xtr?
    It’s all so complicated nowadays. Bring back the old range of;
70GS, 100GS, 200GS, 300LX, 400LX, 500LX, Deore LX Deore DX and Deore XT (this was pre XT-R and slx)
So much simpler back then. 🤣

  2. Don’t forget STX… I had that… the version I had was plain silver everything… as it should be.
Oh, and you could peel the labels off… bikes are permanently covered in thousands of logos “these days".

  3. just deore, xt and xtr?

kind of theres a clutch & non clutch version of deore
    also linkglide versions
    also wired/wireless versions….
its a shame in some ways, being able to mix and match groupset components was a great way to maximise vfm

  4. DX pedals, cranks, brake caliper and lever, hubs and seatpost were released very early 80s. I’ve still got 4 pairs of the pedals. Deore DX was early 90s, and the red DX BMX/DH stuff was 97.

I happily stand corrected on the DX BMX stuff.

  6. . Oh, you mean 12 speed? Yeah, not interested in selling my arse to fund a finicky drivetrain,

Shimano 12 speed is the opposite of finicky. Takes minutes to install with minor adjustments. Fit and forget. And 10% better range than 11-51 and probably lighter. Shifting under load much better too.

when it’s new it’s fantastic. Slick fast shifting. Wide range all usable.
but I’ve written off more 12s mechs than any other. It really doesn’t tolerate any misalignment al all and seems to bend easily. It’s very noisy if it gets dirty. And I’ve just put a new chain on well before 0.75 wear and while it’s running well again it’s very noisy (I seem to remember this last time as well – the second chain takes many many miles to bed in and quieten down)
