On Saturday when unloading the bike from the van I noticed that there was loads of play on the SLX cassette fitted to the Mavic Crossride on my BFe. At first I thought the lockring was loose but it wasn’t – instead it was like there was some kind of spacer missing. It wasn’t really noticeable when riding the bike and as I had an easy towpath day planned I went ahead and used it (I had the BFe as I was planning to ride the trail centre at Lochgilphead on the Sunday but decided to give it a miss).

When I got home I tried another cassette (a SRAM one this time) on the wheel but it had the same issue. I’ve not noticed the play on the wheel before (although it’s not out of the question that it’s always been like that) so have I lost a spacer or something?
