EL VINO, My company does offer childcare vouchers so the whole salary sacrifice part of it is not a problem !!
As for refusing the scheme under Elf & safety risks, thats a complete joke, employers are not responsible for you injuring yourself on the way to/from work regardless of whether they supplied the bike to you or not !!
My Payroll people did mention the elf & safety risk but I reminded them that I was a H&S advisor ! I was just a name & number to them 
1 don't gte the connection with cars/car allowances ?Lots of folk I know have a bike on C2Work and a company car/car allowance. I don't think there is any rule which makes them mutually exclusive ?
Correct. I had a car allowance and still bought a bike on CTW.
I got turned down for it, they said if they did it for me they would have to open it for everyone and they couldnt afford to buy 30 or so bikes. instead i got a pay ride coming in at 3 times what i would have spent on the bike, i was told that it was for my extra commitment to the job, and was followed by a wink.

The company I work for will not run the C2W scheme again on 'Health and Safety' grounds!Has anyone else come across this?
Hahaha!!! I had my driving licence revoked last year due to medical grounds, obvious choice was to cycle too & from work, and for the odd trip on & off site required for my job (nurse specialist with some community based work).
Some "well meaning" **** (not one of my managers) decided she had to speak to occupational health about this, and my employer determined that I shouldn't use my bike for work purposes due to elf & safety reasons (risk of a seizure), thier measure of my fitness to cycle on work purposes being that if I get my licence back, then I am fit to cycle.
As it happens I'm not likely to get my licence back until next January, and now my proper boss is back inpost then I'll try the cycling on work business pathway again, as my proper boss is not a "well meaning" interfering ****, she's much more sensible than that!
Yer re elf and safety... our scheme is limited to commuting only, c2w bikes are not to be used for business purposes.
I think the connection to car allowance is that many companies make it a rule that if you have a company car you arrive in it each day and it is available at 'the drop of a hat' so you can go on a business trip with no notice. The sooner company cars are taxed out of existence the better.
p.s. my mate got around this by driving in once, leaving his car in the directors car park, got a lift home, then cycled the rest of the week...after a while they were happy for him to remove his car from the prime directors parking spots and cycle in leaving his car at home.
