something's gone seriously wrong, when Archie Gemmil makes the A+A thread...

The one and only Franz Klammer (Left)

The man.... Edwig Van Hooydonck, inventor of the three quarter length tight or bib-knicker....
In action;

Most of the ladies who appear in this thread are 'aesthetic' because you can see their tits, and their 'athletic' ability runs a very distant second to that fact that you can see their tits.
Call it subversion if you like....

Phwoooar! It's Djamolidine!

I think that's the point, though. It's 'let's have a perv at fit babes/blokes without breaking forum rules', really, let's face it.
I think this woman is amazing, and utterly gorgeous. A true inspiration.

The great thing about A and A is that it's there for everyone on STW to participate in and a lot of the lovely laydeez here post regularly. I applaud you unreservedly for helping to make that point.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Djamolidine Abdoujaparov?!?!? The Tashkent Terror? A man so mental they named a band after him?!?!
Fantastic sprinter; a monster. One of the greatest sprinters in Tour history.
I'll never forget this crash. It made me cry, it was so bad. 40+mph; touched the foot of a metal barrier. All over.

One of me favourite TDF riders of all time! Nice one, Crikey!

Pretty much, but also it's because the Friday Kylie clause was a little old and tired (Much like the lady herself) and kept on churning out all the same pictures of just one woman. This ws always meant to make the whole thing available to a much wider audience and always intended to be for the ladies of STW as much as the chaps.

I don't have any great problem with the concept, but it has tended to become either a re-hash of which ever pics you can lay your hands on, or an FHM lite sad little trawl through slighty naughty sports pics from the 'net.
There is also, however much we/you try to deny it, a subtle misogynistic little boy pervery theme going on, which we really should try to move on from, in my opinion....

Much like the lady herself
S'a bit harsh, innit? Speshly coming form a bloke who's a decade or two past his best himself!
You're mean and nasty, Flashy.

Isn't that what it's all about though? I thought that's what Captain Posh Fart intended it to be? Am I wrong?

Your opinion is wrong. More tits.

Now then, how about something from when men were men and sideburns ruled the Earth!

Sideburns still rule, Guy Martin proves the point.

Your opinion is wrong. More tits. No, you are wrong. A+A should be about athletes you admire for their athletic prowess first, and who you think are 'well buff'. Their buffness should be merely coincidental to thier athletic prowess, mind, or you end up with stuff like this:

Which has as much to do with sport, as I do with the House of Lords.

Sense of humour failure sir?

Blimey! If all bike racks looked like that nobody would drive to work.
Posted 2 years ago # -
See?
It's just ladies showing their bottoms, which sums up much of this thread and much of the intention/ideation behind it.
The internet is full of porn, it would be nice if standards on STW dictated that we don't have to reference it as part of tradition...

Crikey - was that a pic of Ivan Mauger in his heyday?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Chris Morton! I wanted to be him when I was 6, but only because the bigger kid from round the corner beat me to wanting to be Peter Collins.
Posted 2 years ago # -
crikey, RB was being somewhat ironic there.
Yes, this is an excuse for some nice things to look at, but it has always been about both the athleticism as well as the aesthetics. Must be both. RB was pointing out that we could just that sort of dross, or the FHM/Maxim esque shots, but the aim was to open it to a much wider audience. So far, it's worked. Long may it continue.

Both correct. I was a bit of a speedway fan in my younger years, going to Belle Vue regularly, and used to ride my mates Speedway bike on Morecambe beach when I was allowed.
The smell of methanol and Castrol R is one of those things that is hard-wired into my brain, and it slams me back 30 years in an instant.

Captain, I appreciate the irony, but it still feels like looking at page three when aged 14.
I think we could raise our game a bit..
Posted 2 years ago # -
is that actualy a football team?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Belle Vue... the smell of the fuel, the texture of the dust behind the stands and the sight of the roller coaster next door.
Jumpers for goal posts etc.
Posted 2 years ago # -
crikey, now the other day I didn't have a good thought for RudeBoy, but tonight I feel I must defend the man, the point he was making is that this is NOT the place for images such as in his post as they do nothing but drag us back into the dark ages.

note to self: type quicker...
Posted 2 years ago # -
Harry, don't!
It's like a trap door I can fall through, the sounds, the smells, the experience, getting through to the start side stand after the interval, the feeling of the shale hitting your trouser legs, the stewards handing the rip-offs into the crowd.
I'm melting!!!
Posted 2 years ago # -
Headfirst, I know. I know what RudeBoy was suggesting, and I'm agreeing that that is not the way we should be going.
Posted 2 years ago # -

from the days when football was a contact sport, Bremner protests his innocence (having just kicked Mackay's leg on his return from a season away following a nasty break), Terry Venables is glad to be sufficiently far away not to have to get involved and the ref knows he's in for an afternoon...
certainly athletic and there is a timeless aesthetic to this picture that has made it iconic of a football era.
