As per title found yesterday, I've powered it up but it requires a pass code so I can't retrieve any owner details.

Sign is a good idea, do iphones still receive calls if the phone is locked?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Get the SIM card out.
This will tell you what network they are on and should give you an 0800 number to call if the phone is found.
Or hand it into the appropriate o2/orange shop.
They will be able to get it back to the original owner.Collect your Karma points.

Same data cable as ipods etc if you need to charge it off USB for any reason.

Very strange it has not already been rung to be honest. Have you checked there is a sim in it? Might be an insurance job to get a free upgrade.

Yes there is a sim, although the phone is showing no service now, so perhaps it has been disconnected.

Looks like the owner has nuked it from orbit and reported it stolen to their network then.

Then I am the proud owner of an iPhone paperweight.

Lessons for iPhone owners:
1. Set a Lock Screen image that includes a contact number or email address. (the IfFound app is useful for this)
2. Set up "Find My iPhone". If your phone is lost (and you have another iPhone or mac) then you can find it with GPS, send messages to it, and/or remotely wipe it.

Odd they didn't try and ring it first

Mabe they did ring well before KT found it.
I lost my old Nokia in Swinley once, borrowed a phone and rang it and some MTBers had picked it up, I got it back and had a good laugh with them becasue they'd seen my screensaver was a pic of my Yeti!

So you're handling stolen goods?

So you're handling stolen goods?
Nope I have a 'found' Iphone, I shall drop it off at the local police station, if it's not claimed after whatever the set time is I shall do something with it, legitimately.

Lolwhut?

He's not far from wrong 'theft by finding' is a criminal offence If I don't take steps to find the owner.

You have taken steps by posting it on here. It's a start.

Didn't mean to imply you had done anything wrong. Just that if the owner had 'claimed' it was stolen for the insurance it may be a problem for you.

If the owner has reported it stolen there will be NO issues for the OP as he is taking reasonable steps to locate/trace the owner. I would either call the the network provider and give them the IMEI of the phone as this is the identifyer and if not then hand it in to the police. No-one can accuse you of theft.
