Isn't that Defoe? He was on fire at the start of the season, maybe the WC will inspire him. Despite the fact that he looks like he's playing the wrong sport, Crouch has always done his bit.

gerrard has had a naff season especially compared to lampard, but I reckon take him along and chuck him on the wing as he is occasionally used.

Carrick is needed for stability I would say - he is good in possession and can pass from the back.

I think he offers that security at the back - nothing fancy, just keeps the ball and passes it forward rather than punt it upfield. In international football, certainly against teams such as Brazil and Germany this is what is needed. I am not sure who else would provide that cover (apart from Hargreaves but he isn't fit so can't really be considered).Posted 2 years ago # -

JoeCarlton Cole hasn't been named in the 30 man squad. I thought he would have at least been given a chance in the 2 friendlies to prove his form. Especially given that he looked pretty good in the games he's played.

There aren't any other options, but Defoe only seems to score against lesser teams.
Out of that line up, only Rooney is world class when up against the best defenses in the world and likely to get a goal for us.

Seriously I think all apart from Heskey deserve to be ahead of him in the pecking order
