  • Degreaser – anything better than Finishline Multi?

Finishline Multi degreaser is my usual choice, but it’s very pricey in the small quantities it come sin (600ml – I have 6 bikes).

Other than pitching for it in a 1 (US) gallon size, are there any others I should try that are better/less mind bending when used in a confined space?

    (Exciting topic, I know….)

    cheers

    White spirit.

I wanted a degreaser, not a Monday morning drink..!

Tried it, and don’t like it.

are you using it for general all bike use or just the chain?

    i’ve heard petrol works well
    neat (undiluted) fenwicks fs-1

It degreases and does it well, why pay through the nose for supposedly specialist de-greasers?

LBS in Edgeley,Stockport does a gallon of very orangey smelling citrus degreaser for about £13. It’s brilliant stuff.

I only use degreaser on the chain/drive or when cleaning bearings. I just a 5 litre tin of DEB Jizer. Lasts me years and I’m always cleaning bikes.

    Cheers all.

No, just using on the drive trains of the various bikes, esp the road commuters, which get in the worst state.

Bought a 5 ltr can of Jizer in 1987 still got 1/3 of a can left, great for degreasing but it does melt tarmac

    Diesel.

That’s what I use. Cheap, effective and unlike white spirit and petrol, it’s oily and doesn’t strip all the lubrication out 🙂

So as a de-greaser it does kind of fail in it’s primary task.

But it stinks to high heaven, and I store/service my bikes in the cellar beneath my living room…..

I found diesel and white spirit equally average when it comes to dregreasing. Finishline Ecotech2, which may now be called ‘multi’ and Gunk ‘green’ are the best for me.
