Hello, looks like I have CTS. Fingers getting so numb i can’t feel the brake levers.

I have specialised BG grips and have been riding for years without problems. Started to see Physio, but I wondered if anyone here has it and has managed it well? Any advice?

    cheers!

I told you on email, I have a machine that sorts out my “needs”. USB powered as well 😉

Mrs FD had it, but from what I remember wasn’t getting numbness it was more being unable to straighten or bend her fingers and quite painful. It helped that she is an ortho surgeon so just got one of her colleagues to look at it.

A simple day case op and she now has no problems.

I guess you will need to see your GP and ask to be reffered to a hand surgeon.

Are you sure its not trapped/pinched nerves else where etc causing the numbness?

When looking into various online documents on the topic of how to setup my bike properly – some sources suggested that slightly overstretching (i.e. fractionally too long a stem) can put just just enough pressure on the appropriate nerves in your back and that in turn make your hands numb/tingley – all without giving you any inclination the sensations originates from pressures the back (i.e. you do not necessarily have a sore/achey back).

Likewise, most sources made sure to note that there was a massive clump of nerves between your bunghole and genitals and if the nose of your seat is tilted upwards too much the excess pressure on that cluster of nerves can produce strange side effects.

I do not know if my advice is correct, I dont know much about these things (I am not a physiotherapist), but I hope you get well soon!

Hi there, this post comes courtesy of my 2nd carpel tunnel operation convalescence.

The symptoms are numbness in the thumb and 3 larger fingers, NOT the little-finger. It’s often worse when you wake up in the morning. If this is you then you have it. Which is good news really, as it’s very easy to fix. You should get it done though as it only gets worse.

I had the 1st hand done earlier this year, it’s a simple 1/2 day at the out patients, then 2 weeks until the stitches are out, and I was back on the bike pretty much straight after that.

Another 6 weeks or so and all soreness was gone. This time round and the other hand seems to be healing even better, fingers crossed. Stitches out tomorrow, might go for a ride 🙂

    Hope that helps

Ms TPT had Carpal Tunnels, the wrist op sorted them out, scars just about disappeared after 2-3 years. Do the op.

    Do the op!

And the carpal tunnel one too. Even if you don’t need it.

Mrs Wally has it – comes and goes. Good luck, when it hits very debilitating

    Fellow sufferer here too!
Just about to say it won’t make your little finger numb, just the rest of your hand 🙁 if you wake up in the middle of the night feeling like your hand has changed into a lump of meat, you’ve probably got it!
Off to the doctors, they will refer you to have tests (electrode type thingies attached to your finger to see if the nerves are working). Then it’s most likely an op to release it, four weeks off work and then hopefully problem solved.
I’ve had left hand done, better than it was but still not 100%, right one is at ‘dead piece of meat stage’ but don’t want to go through the op again 🙁
As for managing it, it’s not really an option. Splints are available but a waste of time, some say you can massage it out but at the end of the day it’s surgery that cures it. When you never get a good night sleep because of it you’ll know it’s time to go under the knife!!
Good Luck with it, hope it gets diagnosed and sorted for you.

I was referred to physio for mine after it got bad playing badminton. Got given one of those wrist straps with a metal bar in for when working at the PC for a few months.

For my bike I switched to ODI rogue lock ons and not had a problem since.

I did try playing badminton with one of those straps which goes around your forearm under your elbow and it helped but I just avoid playing badminton now 🙁

Thanks. It is only thumb and main 2 fingers. Physio also looked at other possible pinch points of the median nerve (neck and elbow).

Going to have a play with position on bike, it’s all very recent so only been on road bike and ss since symptoms started and haven’t ridden my other bikes. so need to try out those first. It’s not as bad on road bike, but then i can change hand positions.

Pins and needles in fingers/thumb at night not got to numb hand stage then.

Will try splints, would like to avoid the op if possible.
