Just wondered what their sizing was like?

I have wide feet. Heard they come up up narrow.

No-one run in Hoka One One’s?

    Thought they were catching on?

I’d never even heard of them til I saw this thread. My Asics trail shoes are due for retirement and I fancy a change.

    Seem well rated here

I use em, but not exclusively. The uppers are pretty small. My normal shoe size is 45, but I take 47 in Hoka Stinsons, and even then it’s a bit snug round the little toe.

    How wide are they generally?

I’ve no issue going up a few sizes but even then I can’t use Salomon or Adidas as I find them way too narrow and have exclusively used Brooks and Asics for the past few years as I generally find them a bit wider but these sound interesting.

They are pretty narrow. The upper is flexible though, but don’t buy it if you want a big roomy forefoot area.
Some people cut out bits of the upper to make extra space – similar to this –

I bought some Bondi 3’s a little while ago, usually run in Asics Nimbus. They are a bit narrower around the toes but not too bad. Main problem I had was (I assume) how shallow my feet are, they rubbed around the top of my foot/start of ankle. Wore them twice and that was that.

I have a pair of mafates, only use them on really long runs 30 miles plus and they have been great. They are on the small size but not hugely so, I have 8.5’s and wear 8’s in all my other shoes, I am defo a small 8 though so between 1/2 and 1 size bigger.

Doesn’t sound like these are for me then

    Mafate 3s here.

I love ’em. Under the right circumstances! They destroy long distance trails, and They’re excellent on the West Highland Way etc.

Steep rough ground, very poor. Steep rough contouring, genuinely awful. But they’re not made for that really. Too much distance between the ankle and terra firma.

As the others have said, they fit narrow. I’d buy at least a 1/2 size up, maybe even a full size. My feet are pretty average width, 1/2 size up was about right for me if that’s any indication. If you can find a stockist to try them its well worth doing so.

If they fit, and you’re gonna use them on appropriate terrain I thoroughly recommend them. As mentioned above, on those long 30+ runs they are superb. For me at least. The GF’s brother has been using road versions for a few years now and has completed an Ironman in them and is a keen fan and repeat customer. As I will be when mine give up the ghost.

    Not cheap however.

My road shoes are Brooks Ravennas, no shortage of room around the forefoot. Hoka’s are ‘snug’ in comparison, and my old trail shoes are Salomon. Which are somewhat less ‘snug’.
