Gritfest is one of a growing number of gravel races to take inspiration from enduro style timed stage racing and long linking sections of riding. First run last year, it is returning for 2019, this time with Lauf as the title sponsor.
The event takes place in mid-Wales, using remote tracks and trails far away from any towns. The routes within the Towy forest and into the Cambrian mountains will offer a challenge to the riders with 80km on day one and 45km on day two, each day featuring up to four timed stages.
Sponsorship
Icelandic company, Lauf (best known for its leaf-sprung suspension designs) has confirmed a three-year title sponsorship of the event which is now known as Lauf Gritfest.
Matthew Page, director at A Cycling and the organiser of Gritfest says:
“We could not think of a better partner for Gritfest. Lauf showcased at the first event and we are super exited that they want to invest in the event’s future. Lauf’s products are fantastic and perfect for the terrain at Gritfest, taking gravel riding performance and comfort to the next level”
Lauf will be attending the event, supported by UK distributor Upgrade Bikes, and will display the True Grit bike and Grit forks with an arena test track available. It’s also anticipated that the recently launched “Anywhere” mixed terrain bike and Smoothie handlebars will also be showcased at the event.
Guðberg Björnsson, founder and chief designer at Lauf says: “We are very excited to be working with Gritfest and the organising team. The trails within Wales are perfect for gravel bikes and the event is a great place to showcase the True Grit frame and fork. As gravel riding as a whole continues to grow in the UK we look forward to being involved.”
2019 event
The inaugural Gritfest in 2018 was an instant hit, resulting in the number of 2019 entries being expanded to 300 places. The event is taking place on June 22/23 for this year. Gritfest says that entries are already close to selling out; so if you are keen to ride be quick to visit the web site. Entry includes camping on-site with facilities, fully waymarked route with feed stations and contactless chip timing. Back at the event base there is a bike wash, locally sourced BBQ and pizza, great coffee, a bar and entertainment across the weekend.
