Anyone seeing merit in the 4pm ZHQ race over the longer Crit race distance today ?

Regrettably, meritorious or otherwise, I’m still working until 5pm.

    I’m still working until 5pm.

It seems all the best / popular events are late afternoon / early evening, kind of annoying when I’m working late every day.
It’s much more limited at 7am / 8am when I am available and usually my legs are not ready for a full on race at that time. Usually restricted to Aus / Kiwi races. Even the recent Tour events avoided those times and did 6am or 9am!!

Thank god for the commute club rides, they give me a focus at an unsociable time!

There do seem to be some very obvious gaps in scheduling of races, and very odd volumes at strange times. It’s a bit like gym classes all being at 1pm and nonsense.

Noticed there were a handful more if sub 60min workouts on Zwift last night, so I tried the 20min one named “Miracle.”

Warmup, then two blocks of four 1min intervals separated by ~15sec recovery periods, where the 4th interval is freeride for you to do the best you can.

Not a bad workout, bit less demanding than Emily’s Short Mix.

Oh I might take a look at those. Cheers for the heads up.

will give that a try, don’t want to commit to a proper plan as I want the flexibility to be able to race etc, so like doing the occasional standalone workout.

Usually do ESM but bump it up a couple of points otherwise I feel I’ve got off lightly. Only done “The Wringer” once, that was tough!

Did the 3pm race up Alp du Zwift today. Only my second time up but took 15 seconds of my first time. Happy with that.

Flight to stay ahead of the guy behind me that shadowed me Josh of the way up.

He was 71. I am not 71 so a lot of fitness to go yet, and weight to lose. 98kg, I really feel that on the climbs…

Nothing else to add as I’m ****ed. 😓

Just keep pushing! Well done on the improvement, it’s always good to race someone, it always helps the times.

That’s a bloody good effort! Well done.

    He was 71. I am not 71

Don’t worry, we all get thrashed by old boys.

Nothing is quicker than a septuagenarian on a bike older than you are. It’s just the way of the world.

Um, we have qualified to ride in the TTT Premier League this week. I have to accept or decline our place by the end of tomorrow. Shall I say yes?

Two things to bear in mind…

    – We’d have to ride in Latte class this week, so a max of 3 B riders. Normally we don’t pay any attention to the composition of the team, and I like doing it that way. We just ride in whatever formation enters. And normally it doesn’t matter because we get reclassified into the appropriate category for whatever combination show up on the start line. But for this week only we’d have to pay attention (realistically that means phil56, dangeourbrain and tiger6791 who rode us into this position in the first place) and it would matter for once because in the PL you get a “DNQ” rather than reclassified if you don’t ride with the right composition.

    – It’s a sightlier earlier start than usual – 6pm instead of 6.30pm. Can everyone make that?

It’s broadcast on zwift community live facebook/youtube, but let’s be honest I don’t think that Latte gets much attention (last week’s broadcast is still up to take a peek at). And I’m supposed to supply a bio of each rider but we can come to that later I guess. The course is confirmed now, it’s 2 pan flat laps of Tick Tock, total 36km.

    Thoughts?

I don’t know what Cat everyone else is – who would still be able to ride and who would get excluded as too many B’s?

    zilog6128
    Full Member

You 3 guys as mentioned above are B, everyone else in the team was C, so could have the same team. Guessing you have to ride in the same PL category that you qualified in. Still would be room for a couple more C/D riders though as max is 8!

    savoyad
    Full Member

Yep, last week’s team could obviously ride together again:
    dangeourbrain B
    phil56 B
    tiger6791 B
    ljarch C
    savoyad C
    zilog6128 C

with two spaces left for C or D category riders. That might include e.g. ivandobski (and looking further back, dknwhy).

Assuming all three of those B’s ride, it would exclude weeksy and trail_rat (and kelvinshuffle).

Based on that then I think it would be Ok to give it a go – but let’s not let it get too serious – we’re still in this for the fun!!

Today was all about the climbing

Set out to do 3300m climbing

Had it all mapped out locally. Got up. Couldn’t even see the end of the garden with the fog and it wasn’t forecast to lift all day. Didn’t seem clever to play with traffic on the high routes

Jumped on zwift and did quatch quest , zipped back down the alpe
….stepped off to inside for a coffee and a snack. Came back it was still going down the hill….turned round and climbed back up , descended, climbed epic Kom to the radio tower and descent back down to the Italian villas. 100km and 3380m climb

Eaten all the food this evening now

Whoa good effort, that’s alot of climbing! I’m dead after one accent of the Alpe.

I need to start pacing myself so I can do things like this, I have something in my head that everytime I’m on a timed climb I want to beat my pb and I tire myself out…I need to stop doing it and chill sometimes…just enjoy the ride.

Can someone explain this team tt thing to me as me and a few of my club mates may be interested in giving it a go.

Is it wtrl racing? And can someone explain how we go about registering a team?

    Ta

    phil56

    It is Wtrl.racing.com

Website has all the information you’ll need

On the top banner click ‘WTRL Team’

Then select ‘WTRL Racing Team on Zwiftpower’ from the dropdown

This takes you to Zwiftpower, on the top banner you’ll see ‘create new team’

Sorry savoyad, only just seen your post. That’s a good result, I think we can be very pleased with that, expecially on a hilly course.

Typically I’m in the office on Thursday this week. I’d be happy to give it a go but 6pm might be a bit tight on start time is the only thing.

Still gives me cause to make sure I’m out the door at 5pm

    tpbiker

    That didn’t work!

    Garry_Lager

You need to sign up to the wtrl site tpbiker. Login and then registration is very quick – just choose a time slot, class and team name. That’s it – you don’t need to pre-register riders or anything like that.
You can even get the class wrong and it doesn’t really matter, as you’ll be reclassified int he final results.

There’s then 4 or 5 very simple things to do for everyone to set up, at least some of which are guaranteed to be bolloxed up as they are counter-intuitive.

@phil56 yeah it’s all about the lolz, THAT SAID as a very flat course where it should be easy to keep the group together… I’d be tempted to try some proper team tactics with organised turns at the front (few mins hard, rest at the back, repeat) to really max the speed. Just a thought though, I’ll probably be at the back just trying to hang on as usual 😂

Thats a great result, I’m definatly up for having another go. I was worried I’d slow you all up but just about had enough to hang with and get through last time!

OK, I have accepted the premier league invitation and withdrawn us from the normal TTT race this week. The event start is 6pm, I’ll confirm our exact start delay nearer the time as usual.

The entry link is… a secret. I’ll message it to each of dangeourbrain, phil56, tiger6791, ljarch and zilog6128.

Other cat C or cat D riders are welcome to join us. Ask in here for the link. This would be a good moment for ivandobski and dknwhy to return to the fray if they see this.

Our team tactic will not change because of the fancy context – let’s bounce around like lottery balls as normal, and aim to get the whole team over the line together.

If for any reason we aren’t going to make it I have until 7pm Weds to move our entry back across to the normal race. Or if we end up short of cat Bs we’d need to persuade weeksy or trail_rat to step in. dangeourbrain are you going to make it on time for 6pm do you think?

That’s all. Back to normal service, hopefully including weeksy, next week.

I’ll message it to each of dangeourbrain,

Done thank you – I notice it links to an 18.15 start. I’ve also removed my self from the 18.30 so I don’t get auto switched mod race!
That’s good and I should definitely make that unless something goes badly wrong.

Been having issues with the Core due to my terrible pedalling “style” and my current 94kg weight.

It sways too much to the right as the turbo is mounted right of centre on the leg.

So… Ordered some 40mm steel tube to lengthen the front leg. I’ll be shortening it (on the left) but this is just the initial fitment. So far so good, much more stable. Easy enough to do with a drill and file.

Sorry about the carpet/ mess…. but I’m sure you’ll see the steel tube in there somewhere.😁

    It’s not too subtle!

How did you find the race earlier @Poopscoop – it didn’t seem to be working that well with “open” roads, no timings etc etc?
