Just had this email from TalkTalk.

It’s amazing how much data one 14yr old girl can use! 😀

    Amateur.

We’re at nearly a terrabyte a month here.

15 year old, 20 year old and two old fogeys.

I’ve had to get 200Mb broadband so I still get decent load times in the evenings.

Just the home broadband (so all devices connected to it).

No mobile data – she only gets 2GB of that a month!

Is there such a thing 😯 , the speedtest i’ve just done shows 1.7mb 😥

I was in the states for work a week ago. I’m on three, so you get the “feel at home” where costs come out of your allowance at home.

I got a text when I got back, “You’ve saved £2442.73 using your phone abroad”

    Eek.

just ran a test. Slightly slow upload is due to an older local box with 4 cores on the ‘up’ line rather than the more recent 6 apparently.

this is a home connection but I’m on a wired desktop.

We burn through about 300gb / month using Netflix, Now TV and Prime and some browsing and XBOX gaming. That’s just me and my wife, no kids.

Can you check usage on BT if it’s unlimited?
It’s not on my “Your usage” page.

You can call them and they will tell you, but then your day will be ruined because you have had to call BT. I don’t think you can see it through your account.

If it’s anything like Virgin, you can just log on to the router and check.

I remember last time I rang up looking for a discount, they said “Let’s check on your usage and see if there is anything we… Oh!”

I do work from home, listen to streaming music all day every weekday, have Netflix and don’t have broadcast tv though, so it’s not really a surprise.

A mate of mine emigrated to Sweden a few years ago and was back home visiting family this week. He’s in the process of having his Internet connection upgraded – to 1Gbps.

    😯

200mbps in Paris (we don’t pay for the 300 available)
1.5mbps in Hampshire and that costs more money pm than the 200.

200mb???? 200!!!!!!! we only get 1mb and that if we are lucky and the rest of the world isn’t online. My phone is so much faster than our pc

I checked with Virgin before cancelling my contract so I could gauge how much I was using and get a sufficient service for my new house. Averaged out at 150gb per month with my max month’s usage at 187gb. Currently on a 200gb a month allowance which I hopefully won’t go over.

Meanwhile in rural scotland, 0.5mbps is good going!

One can only assume that grot is now available in 4K HD in line with the latest high def TV’s… It’d certainly be a frightening amount at 240 or 360p!

You can login to your account online for plusnet and see your usage.

Edit:Although saying that it now states…

Data usage is no longer fully accurate

We’ve made some improvements to our network which will improve your connection to some popular high bandwidth services such as YouTube and Netflix. We will no longer be able to track your usage on these services which means the information below will not accurately reflect your usage.

Mine is on 80GB a month but I’d that excludes Netflix and iPlayer it’s probably way higher.

It’s all logged by your ISP, by law.

Only the IP address IIRC i.e. they can see you downloaded from pornhub.com, but they can’t see the title of the video.

IIRC again, didn’t pornhub make a song and dance about encrypting so that even if an ISP (or the NSA, GCHQ) wanted to they couldn’t see what you were watching.
