Weather forecast hasn’t had a clue for the past few days.

Was forecast as being overcast today. After the unannounced downpour yesterday hopes weren’t high as I was planning a ride that would have been decidedly dour in inclement weather

    Turned out bloody lovely

    51 miler (my longest ride)

Up through Winster to HPT, back along Tissington to Ashbourne, pub stop in Ashbourne. Lovely country lanes and dirt tracks up to Carsington, back over to HPT and down to Cromford, Matlock etc

There was a marathon going on on the HPT/Tissington – passed a lot of the runners again on the final leg, lots of people out enjoying the countryside – even if some did look completely destroyed towards the end.

Modified car show in Cromford that I happened on by chance, but didn’t hang about and take photos. Back to local beer garden then home for a curry

Pictures are pretty rubbish, but been a fantastic day. 6 hours out on the bike. Guinness is zero btw

    Colsnaur (again).

Roasting on the climb but the descent was as sweet as ever. There’s one section near the end where you burst into a viewpoint and then ride several hundred meters through gorse. Absolutely superb !

FInished with coffee and cake in the garden 🙂

Got back from Italy Thursday night and leaving for Poland Monday, so weekend of family time, did get out last night for a bit though, on what will most likely be my last ever ride on my G16, after 5 years, just over 7000 miles and over a million feet of elevation, I’m picking up a G1 frame Thursday.

Had some unfinished business with a ride where I managed to injure myself a few weeks back. Was bloody hot work though.

Only took me 4 years to get this bike back up and running after the aluminium nipples corroded on these Spank wheels. My first ride on actual trails (as opposed to farm tracks) for nearly a year.2024-05-18-14-38-31-304

A wee trip into the “bleak” Monadliath hills on a very warm day.

It was a hot and sweaty climb up to around 700m

    PXL_20240516_112700655

The descent down to the River Dulnain was even steeper.

    PXL_20240516_115812468

Found an excellent – and little used – bothy.

    PXL_20240516_125337131

I’d spotted this waterfall while descending, so left the bike and went for a wander.

Of course, I had to have a dip!!

Wheel rebuild on the MTB gave me an excuse for a long mostly road ride. Left calderdale early, over widdop to the Leeds Liverpool canal, followed that to gargrave, then roads to kettlewell. Turned round and pedaled down the wharfe valley to Ilkley. Then over the moor by Keighley rd and cowpers cross (bloody hard work in the by then hot sun!) then increasingly slowly back home to hebden over by oxenhope and cock hill. Fantastic day!

    Lago di Campotosto, Gran Sasso…

    Beautiful weather before setting off….

    Then it pissed it down….

Rode through a town that was hot by an earthquake in 2009… Bit surreal.

And the sun came back out just as we finished….

Porlock. First time back in seven years. Won’t be leaving it as long next time. Stunning riding, amazing scenery, great weather and lots and lots of climbing! 70km and 2500m over three rides!

Loved riding the new (to me) Yeti SB130-LR and a quick look at the GoPro footage already makes me want to go back!

Why is it so **** difficult to post photos on here?!? Trying to post a jpeg that is 579kbs and it won’t let me. The one above is only 3.95mb as well! **** stupid.

Edit and save then it works for some reason. It was easier using post images.org… anyway, blurry photo of my lad getting gnar!

Out this morning with my lad. Stopped for a break, and he decided he needed to clear the fallen sticks off the route incase someone tripped over them, lad!

In-between baking a birthday cake and cooking dinner went for a quick(ISH) spin out to the Peaks. Managed to endo in the bog of doom on Curbar Edge resulting in a foot full of stinky mud 😂 Lovely weather and the first properly hot and sunny ride this year.
