More chance of me buying shit from Mike Ashley than Temu. Which really is saying something. Because I purposely avoid anything he’s getting any ££ from if I can possibly know about it – and will actually go without 1st.

I’ve never bought anything from temu, but bike chains are one of the few things I wouldn’t take a punt on. I’ve had a couple of fake KMCs from disreputable shops, and they’re awful, and if you don’t spot them in time, they’ve the potential to destroy the rest of your drive chain.

AliExpress is fine, it’s nothing like Temu/Wish – more akin to Amazon Marketplace. I’ve had dozens of orders, all been fine. Still wouldn’t get a bike chain off there though 🤣

Had several from Ali express. They prove more economical . Undoubtedly the same stuff as Temu. Absolutely fine.

I think breaking and causing major accidents is just fear mongering, though. I’ve broken a fair few chains, lived to tell the tale.

I mean, almost anything that’s on a bike that fails at the wrong time and in the wrong way can cause catastrophe, I just think that the fears of instant death are over egging it a bit.

IME crap chains will stretch and destroy your drivechain and skip all over the place long before they’ll snap.

No problem buying things from Aliexpress that don’t try to be something there not, but anything branded you’re on a hiding to nothing IMO! Bottle cage mounts, bike tools, Ride Now tubes…. all goo! Even got a set of Sensah team pro shifters when Covid prices were mental on Shimano and had no issues with them at all.

But I’ve got a mate who bought a full Morvelo road kit from there a few years ago, guess what….it fell apart and looked nothing like the genuine one.

Id have more faith in a Chinese chain branded as a Chinese chain reviewed by someone like tracevelo that a Shimano or Sram one from there.

It most likely won’t cause catastrophic damage and will probably work ok for a while, but I’d rather an old chain than a fake. Chains can be had cheaply from legitimate sources so it’s such a false economy. Decathlon sell re-boxed KMCs at good prices.

The rise in the number of superficially passable fake bike components feels like it’s been massive recently.
