Can you recommend me a decent pair of cycling (spd) shoes to try?

Why are so many cycling shoes so narrow?

Fat feet? Specialized – all my shoes are Specialized and no sore feet ever.

    Shimano wide-fit or fiveten.

Lake wide fit and Giro HV work for me.

    Lake.
They do a specific wide fitting that is substantially wider than any other cycling shoe or boot I have tried. I’ve tried most of them, and nothing else compares.
Unfortunately, the UK importer doesn’t seem to realise this and suggests the standard width are already quite wide. They’re OK but not wide enough. Try Halfords website, Ebay or continental suppliers.

Sidi megas,as I found, don’t actually increase the size of the last. They just include more material across the top of the shoe. It’s a bit of a bodge IMO.

    The same with Giro HV.
Both are a waste of time if you’re blessed with flippers.

Give North Wave a look . A looser comfier fit than Shimano for big wide feet.

I have wide feet, and i have struggled in the past with sports.

My football boots with studs were quite narrow, and I suffered 2 ankle sprains both times when wearing them. Now I use wide astro ones, and my foot is very stable.

For cycling I bought the Shimano wide ones, which have been brilliant

    More aero 🙂

Specialized are good, though I think they go for a narrower last on the high end shoes (at least they do on the road s-works.)
