Had my Nexus for about 3 weeks. I want to use my BT Wifi at home for downloads but going by the data usage on the phone it’s not using the Wifi. When we were away at the weekend I connected it to the BT wifi in the property and used that to download a few apps which didn’t register on the data usage. Am I missing something?

    Hi

Is it a nexus tablet or phone? Have you selected your wifi from the dropdown menu and put your password in?

If you are using a google account and you’ve had that account connected via wifi it will remember that, best to check the settings I guess.

Data usage only applies to mobile Internet use, not wifi Shirley?

    Is it a Nexus 4 or 7?

If so, and it’s running JB4.1 or 4.2, try upgrading to JB4.2.2.

There’s apparently a feature in the wifi driver such that it won’t use the Wifi at all when the screen is off (i.e. it’s in deep sleep).

There’s also some very weird issue going on with the wifi on my N4 but I couldn’t say if it’s the same thing. It seems to have gone away since changing the wifi channel from 11 to 6 (which should make no difference at all).

    It’s a Nexus 4.

If you’ve connected to this network before, then switching off the WiFi and then switching it back on will make it “see” the network and connect to it.

It’s a known problem with some older WiFi routers.
