  • Why does my iPhone go all laggy when I plug it in to charge?

I have an iPhone 5 and it’s a bit buggy at times but generally okay. But when I plug it in to charge, using an apple charger and cable, it just goes mental. Just hangs for ages when I try to unlock it, type a text and it freezes for ages mid way through. What’s going on?

Is it set to back-up to the Cloud on charge?

Or download app updates while on charge

EDIT: good suggestions above re app updates / icloud

Sounds odd. As above try a different cable and/or flip the cable over. As it’s a 5 it can’t be an iOS11 issue (have had issues with two iPads on iOS11 not recognising the cable occasionally and thats a documented bug in iOS11 Beta testing)

I had an iPhone 5S plugged in the other night, showed as charging, but it ten ran out of charge at the same time. Most odd.

I’d go for backup/sync and apps..

Likely backing up to PC if both are on and charging and on the same wifi network.

Gets hot while charging, CPU throttled to prevent overheat?

My 6 does it and my iPad. I find it’s only when I use non Apple chargers. If I use a proper Apple lead and charger it’s fine.
