We have just moved to the Cheshire area and our new local trail center is Delemere Forrest, we went there today to check it out and had a pootle around the two way marked cycle tracks. Can we just ride any of the forrest tracks ? or do we have to stick to certain areas etc We want to find something a little more challenging than the Blue and White trails 😀

Delamere is great but you really need a local to show you the best routes as none are marked.

There is a great lbs called twelvefifty who has an informal meet there on Wednesday evenings, they seem a freindly group so could be a good place to start 🙂

There’s No Brains bike park and the freeride area. Easily found and loads of fun!

I can show you some of the good stuff next Saturday ( up to now anyway ! ). anything up to 4hrs plus and 20 miles is certainly do-able, just be prepared for nettles, brambles and mozzies, then when they’ve done with you, be prepared for the BIG BRAMBLES, ETC. 😛 . Drop me a mail, address in profile whenever you want to sort a visit out. HTH.

Twelve50 bikes in Frodsham do a Wed night bike ride around there, give them a call and they’ll tell you meeting point and sort you out with everything else…

I’m in a bike club called St Helen’s Wollybacks MBC who regularly attend there and lots of other great MTB venues in N West – http://www.thewoollybacks.co.uk/forum.php

There is also a regular ride around there on a Monday night with some nice people (I think Graeme Jones is one of them) who know it inside out.

Delamere (IMHO) is not worth visiting unless you know your way around the cheeky trails….

my email is in profile or 07885 733038 if you fancy meeting up with a few of us.

The Monday night rides (led by Dave Dodd) are an excellent way to find your way round Delamere with good company. I haven’t been for years, but they used to meet at the railway station at 6:30, rides last about two hours and end with a cake stop. Hmm, cakes….

As Graeme will back me up.. There is hours of Singletrack to be found.

    Hi MrsD,
As said above, we ride there on a Monday night, though not at the time or venue mentioned. I think it’s fair to say that we use all the trails in the forest. You’re welcome to join us, just mail me for details. You’ll be needing lights anytime from this Monday onwards. The pace is steady and depends who’s out, we’ll usually cover at least 10 miles in a couple of hours. There is usually a minimum of 10-15 people out, mostly regulars, and we have a good laugh, followed by the best cakes in the world.
    Hope that helps.

My wife started the thread earlier and as we suspected there is much more to Delamere. I’ve just sent a couple of mails hoping to make the ride tomorrow night if not should be able to make the following week the wollybacks sounds good too for some riding locallyish.

Thanks for the offers to show us around it’s (in advance) much appreciated.

Follow the road out past the visitors centre, until you come to the orchard on your right, take the descent down (rooty) then climb the sandy climb. you come to a junction where you can go right or straight, go straight. You now enter a bridge riddled section, look for an obvious right hand fork about 2/3rds of the way throught this section. The log roll is there.

As Geordie Mick says above about our club, The Woollybacks have loads of riding in the area and all over the north west, we know Delamere well.
