I think i’m overthinking this but i smacked my towbar when reversing a while ago and i’m trying to replace the socket. The bike rack is an Atera Genio which has a 13 pin plug but only wired with 7 pins. What replacement socket do I need? Search results are perplexing me as I think I need a standard 13-pin one then wire only the necessary 7 pins but is that right? Cheers!

If it was me I’d replace like for like just in case there’s a vehicle coding issue.  Good chance your car is “expecting” to have 13 wires going into the socket unless someone wired a 13 pin outlet into 7pin loom/wiring kit.

Thanks @garage-dweller I think the wiring loom has a bypass installed to “reduce” to 7-pin hence my confusion!

Go for a 13-pin and get an adapter that fits to the 7-pin socket and plugs into the 13-pin. That way, if you ever decide to change the rack/car, the 13-pin is more standard nowadays and gives you full lights on the rack – reversing and fog lights as well as lights, indicators and braking lights.
