Well, yes, after the obvious necessities – I had a quick spin over to Swinley this morning. Felt like only me and the deer around at 7am but still blinking hot!

edit – no idea how to link that properly – sure someone who has a clue can correct it for me…

I was there at 0545 today and it was just superb….saw no other riders, just a couple of dog walkers.

Doing Saturday morning at the same time….but remember the mosquitos are still out to get you!

I did a nice singletracky ride to work before breakfast.

    <looks at OPs vid>

I had a barely average, vaguely singletracky ride to work before breakfast.

Wish “babymaker” was on my commute, nice!

last night i was on the remedy 8, got half a tyre strapped to the downtube and i’ve got the multicoloured right arm so not too hard to miss, was with a couple of other guys 🙂 saw lots of single riders out, normally its groups of 2-5ish….

there was a cheeky group of about 7 or so that rode through the look-out play area despite the no riding signs *tuts and shakes head*

After watching that two things spring to mind:
1). I’m guessing you have hope hubs?
2). That looks great!! Is most of Swinley like that or it it just a highlight?
I loved that wee vid, now I can see why folk on here are always organising sexy parties there..

How many times did you have to ride it to put that lot together? Nice work.

@allthepal – that’s in one of the better bits of Swinley. As a whole the place has lots of flowy singletrack but it’s not got a great deal of elevation change, so most of it is ‘pedally’ singletrack rather than big descents.

the babymaker is in the ‘expert mountain bike area’ a relatively small area with some fantastic built trails making amazing use of the space on the side of a hill or two…. its definitely a highlight if you haven’t had a chance to explore the rest of swinley 🙂 you can ride for hours and not touch the same bit of singletrack twice if you know the place and have the guts to turn off into the unknown!

good mixture of built tracks and natural stuff, there’s fireroads all over the place, but if you plan it well enough you can cover miles and miles with less than a couple of hundred metres of fireroad.

its easy to forget how lucky we are to have it riding distance from the front door!

sounds nice phil, quick check on google maps, home to work 13 miles, home to work via swinley forest is 446miles 🙁

What did you do before brekkie today?

Rode 20 miles to work, 7am and warm enough in a short sleeved top. Fantastic.

I really am so excited about the ride home in the sunshine.

yep if you’ve got a prior commitment and the forecast is good for weekend be sure to beast your legs during the week so you won’t miss riding at weekend too much 🙂

I’ll be there tomorrow night Phil, say hi if you see me: I’ll be on a black and gold Rose. By the sound of it, you’ll be the one with quads like tree trunks

i’ll try and keep a look out 🙂

i’m pretty easy to spot, the tattoo on the right arm stands out a fair bit compared to my black/white riding gear… hopefully slimjim88 will be joining us and if i remember correctly he’s relatively well tattooed also!

Wow, looks like the trail dudes have been busy, didn’t look like that a few weeks ago. Well done and thank you, we love Swinley.

Looks fun 🙂 Can’t wait for my ride on saturday morning, very excited indeed. Going to get out early to avoid the heat though. Tempted to go out on the roads though, for some strange reason…

Too hot for me, especially with no wind. Even sitting around today I was too hot, and I’m not quick enough to keep cool. Early morning rides are awesome though.

Really? I’ve not been for over a year and it didn’t look much different to me. I think it’s about time I make the trip back down!

Not been to Swinley yet, what bike would you recommend?

    140mm FS
    140mm HT

Sweet. I love rides like that when there’s nobody else about. Almost enough to make me miss working nights!

Hmm, that place looks eminently reachable from my flat via tube/train/bike. Certainly easier/quicker to get to than Aston Hill.

    <hatches cunning plan>

Eyerideit – I have the same bikes, and my club visited Swinley a month ago. I chose my FS (a Heckler) and it was the right choice for me. There is nothing that couldn’t be ridden on a 100mm HT, but more fun banging the berms (how many berms????) and hitting the jumps/mini steeps on a LT full suss!!

Oh, and not out early today, but meeting the lads at 6 in the morning for a pre-work (for them 🙂 ) blast!! Short sleeves and dust – it will never last!!

This morning I rode 15km to the stadium for 6am, ran a bunch of medium paced 800’s (2:40ish) then rode back.

    Temperature a pretty steady 30 degrees C.]

Leave it later and it gets a bit on the warm side – max temperatures of 43 forecast all week here in sunny India 😀

Oh, great little vid – I look forward to riding Swinley the next time I’m back in the UK 🙂

    Cheers, Rich

Jealous – went to Swinley last weekend and had great fun even if i did fall off a little bit (have some interesting toptube shaped bruises on my thigh and about 10% of the skin missing from my right arm) due to a good sized piece of wood ending up jammed in the rear wheel while riding labyrinth. Really enjoyable weekend of riding.
